Planning a flight to San Francisco from San Antonio, possibly in July or August. Can a significant amount of money on airfare be saved by flying into an airport outside of San Francisco & then driving for around (up to) an hour to get to SF?

What section of the city to live in?

by travelgourmet Online Now Mar 26, 2013 at 4:03 PM

I have been interested in having a holiday townhome or condo in San Antonio and don't know that much about residential living in the city or even within 10 miles of city center. It would not be my permanent home unless I fell in love with the Texan hospitality. What section would be desirable as a home away from home. Thanks in advance to any locals that may help. :-)

      Nice Hotel for Older Couple

by JuliaG24 Online Now Mar 23, 2013 at 12:42 PM

My parents would like to plan a trip to San Antonio for the first week of April. I hear there is a lot of action and late night partying that time of year. What hotel would give them good access to all the popular tourist destinations, but quiet enough for those who turn in early?

We're coming down to do SeaWorld in March with our 4 kids. Will we want to swim at SeaWorld or at the hotel in March? Our last trip was mid-June and too hot for us. But I know my kids will be bummed if it's too cold to swim. We could change our trip to early May if we need to.

Hi Coming to San Antonio this summer with my family. Been reading about SA from different web sites and even have a brochure, which I ordered few months ago already. A bit confused already, since there are so many things to see...But, I would like to have your opinion of which 5 attractions in San Antonio are the most interesting to see for parents and a 6 yo daughter ? The kind of attractions, that would not cost a lot of money (to buy tickets) or are just simply free of charge ?

What one thing should I eat in San Antonio

by tuna_on_rye Online Now Nov 15, 2011 at 9:55 AM

If you are ever in Chicago, have an Italian beef. In Boston, a lobster roll. In Uruguay, you have to have chavito (spelling?). In many places there is a food that is local to that area that you cannot easily get elsewhere and is part of the geography of that place (so to speak). In Cordoba, Spain, for example, you have to try salmorejo, most taverns and alomost all restaurants will have it. So, what is the food I have to try when I visit San Antonio? Thanks, Joe

    • Feedback on plans to visit caverns

by NZAPA Online Now Jan 26, 2011 at 5:24 AM

We're planning a visit to San Antonio in April (school trip) and we're looking at hiring a Charter to visit local caverns and caves. The tentative plan is to go to Natural Bridge cavern then Cascade Cavern. We would then go to New Braunfels for a short visit before heading to Wonder World in San Marcos. The plan is to return via Seguin (wildflowers) back to San Antonio. Does this trip sound reasonable for a day trip (9-5)? Do you think it will be interesting for Middle School students? Thanks for any feedback. John

      How's the weather?

by SandiM Online Now Dec 23, 2010 at 6:14 AM

Trying to decide if I've brought too many clothes. Flying from Edmonton to San Antonio tomorrow and the weather in SA looks pretty good but how does it compare to our weather now? Up here,it's cold and icy and the breath freezes in your lungs as soon as you go outside. It's also a drier climate. Verrrry dry. I packed a Bench (light) polar fleece and some long sleeved tshirts but is that going to be too hot? I see that its around 15c so is that a humid 15c or a cooler 15c etc etc? I can cut back to short sleeve shirts and no hoodie to save space in the suitcase...advice?

San Antonio - Travis Street stuff

by SandiM Online Now Dec 1, 2010 at 11:44 AM

Ok! We have finalized our plans in San Antonio for Christmas this year and we have 3 nights at the St Anthony on Travis Street. With google maps I've been able to zoom down to street level and check a few things out (nearest Walgreens, Riverwalk access), however on Sunday morning Ma and I want to go across the street to attend services at Travis Park U/M Church. Afterwards, I want to treat my Ma to lunch nearby (budget:$20 per person). Where's a good spot to take her that's within the vicinity or south-ways, since we will probably head over to the River Walk/Alamo afterwards (is it open on sunday Boxing Day??). Also, what's the best section of the River Walk to check out for scenery and getting onto a boat tour? Thanks!

      Riverwalk photo ops, & food!

by SandiM Online Now Oct 1, 2010 at 9:35 AM

I'm travelling with my mother who prefers to walk as little as possible along the riverwalk (just a touch of arthritis) but definitely wants to walk it. If I'm looking at a Google Map of the downtown area, which parts are the most scenic? I keep seeing a few cute bridges in some of the photos I've seen on the web, where are they? We will also be taking a tour in the boats (I think we can get our tickets at the Alamo?). Our hotel is the St Anthony. Also, can you suggest an interesting restaurant that's easy on the wallet and in a prime location? We love going to restaurants that are big on 'themes' but also has good value/selection. However, if it's also got an excellent view of the lit-up areas along the river, that would be great too. thanks!

      Christmas in San Antonio!

by SandiM Online Now Sep 28, 2010 at 9:50 PM

Flights are hot to San Antonio from Canada so I am lugging my mother and I down to Texas to enjoy 3 nights at the Comfort Suites. In the 2 days we're there, what can we enjoy? We want to know info on the boats down the riverwalk, and is the hopper ticket still in service at Christmas? We're there for the 26th and 27th. Also, where is the nearest mall we can (easily get to) shop at? I need to pick up my usual couple o' 12-paks diet cherry pepsi to bring back (we can't get it up here). Also, is it hot enough for a bathing suit? Our hotel has a lovely pool...
