My grandaughter is graduating from Lackland the end of August. I need suggestions on where to stay. Thanks for advice, Sandy
Hi, Sandy, and welcome to Virtual Tourist. Since you're new, you probably don't know your way around VT yet. Our members have written lots of tips on where to stay, what to do, where to eat, etc., based on their own travels. There's a search box at the upper right of your screen. Type in San Antonio, TX and click on search. Choose the one in Texas (who knew there were so many San Antonios?) and then click on Hotels and read the tips. Have a great trip.

My suggestion would be stay down on the Riverwalk in downtown. I have been to San Antonio several times for work and fun. I have been there several times during graduation and it seems a lot of family and airmen end up down around the Riverwalk. I bet your granddaughter would enjoy getting away from the base and seeing the area. I like the Hilton which is right on the walk, but there are several other very nice places on the walk also.

Well, It depends whether you want to stay right near the AFB or in Downtown off the Riverwalk?
If you want to stay somewhere out of the city, I know of a cottage you can rent in Castroville, TX. Its about a 25 min drive to the AFB but the Cottage is wonderful and so worth the drive. http://www.castrovillecottages.com/ The Town of Castroville is really cute and is settled on the Medina River. The town has lots of antique shops and pretty churches.
Other than that I would suggest staying somewhere on the riverwalk. It is beautiful at night and most restaurants and nightlife is walking distance. You will just find them a little pricier than normal. But its worth it! Good luck

I can share a little insight on basic training graduation based on when my son graduated Army. You do not want to stay near the AFB. They will want to get as far away as possible. My vote is still the Riverwalk.
