any have a good GPS address for close parking to the funicular.
I just found some limited information online about Winterfest. We will be in Munich in December and are planning a day trip to Salzburg. One of our travelers is an experienced juggler and might enjoy something like this. Is it an "open" sort of things, where you can wander the tents, or do you only purchase tickets for a specific show and there's only one thing going on at a time? From the English portion of their website it was somewhat difficult to be sure. Any guidance would be appreciated it. Opinions on whether it's worth it for the money are much appreciated as well.
It appears that many people suggest "doing your own thing" and skip the pre-packaged tours on the buses. What about the Hop On, Hop Off bus that visits each SOM site? You can get off and send as much (or as little) time as you wish at each site. The only place not covered is apparently the cathedral in Mondsee.
We will visiting Salzburg in Mid March. WE are planning a day trip to the Wolfgangeese area. I saw that the bus takes only 10 minutes to reach St.Wolfgang from Strobl, but the bus is available only once an hour. Are taxis or any other mode of transport(i saw that ferries don't start running until late March) available as I don't want to waste 1 hour waiting for the bus in case i miss the earlier bus by just a few minutes...please help!!
We will be in Salzburg in March 2013 (my hubby, myself and my 10 year old daughter). I am planning a day trip to St.Gilgen and Halstatt. I read about various discount day tickets and found it very confusing. This is what I understood. Please correct me and advice. The ERT(Einfach Raus Ticket) is valid only on trains and the there is a day bus regional pass only for buses but we need combination of both the above travel. Please advice the best route/transportation/day ticket for my trip. Thanks in advance.
In march, where can I go ballroom dancing? Is there a website to see the venues and availability dates? Are reservations necessary? can you recommend a hostel or B&B? Moderate
Hello, My 10 year old daughter, my husband and myself are planning a trip to Austria in March. From Salzburg, we are planning a day trip to Bad Recichenhall(salt mine and inhalitorium) and then lake Königssee and back to Salzburg. Is this doable in a day? And is bayern ticket the best option? please suggest...
Hello. I have just seen a programm on TV about Wolfgang Lake and Sharfberg Mountain. At the top of the Mountain there was a Hotel, but nobody gave the name of it; and I would very much like to stay there. Does anyone know the name or anything about it. Thank you.
I am excited to visit the Christmas market in Hohensalzburg and everything the beautiful city has to offer a first-timer like me in salzburg and Austria for that matter. I will be staying in a hotel in Elisabethstrabe and wonder what public transport will take me to the area where the funicular station is located. Thank you for any helpful information or suggestion. Merry Christmas to everyone!!
My trip to Munich and Salzburg is coming together very well, except I am still very confused about transportion. My itinerary is: Arrive in Munich on Friday morning (this week). Immediately travel to Salzburg and return to Munich on Sunday. Stay in Munich for three days, traveling around the town. What sort of train ticket would best suit our needs (2 adults and 1 19 year old student)? Thank you so much! I am not used to train travel!
I was planning a trip to Salzburg for 2 days in mid December. Looking at some reviews, I see this may not be a good time to travel. I want to do the Sound of Music tour and see the old town. The rest of my time will be in Munich. Will I be disappointed so much that I should go at a different time?
Hi, I am trying to find out more about potentially visiting Salzburg last week of Dec. I would fly in to Vienna. 1. From Vienna to Salzburg, would it be best to take a train? Will winter affect train schedules generally? 2. Can someone suggest a proposed itenary? Would like to spend more days in Salzburg and probably a full day trip in Vienna? 3. What to expect on a New Year eve and where is best to be? 4. How cold is it and what generally to pack? Many thanks! =)
Hi, I'll be in Salzburg and leaving for Hallstatt on Oct 21. I did my homework that I will have to take Bus No.150 to Bad Ischl Bahnhof, then take local train to Hallstatt Bahnhof, and ferry. But it seems that there's some changes and the train won't run as normal on that period. After searching from OBB wesite, I have to take only bus from Salzburg to Hallstatt. ' Here're 2 options which I found in the website: 1. Bad Ischl Gotzstrasse(bus 542) 8:17 hrs. Hallstatt Gosaumuhle Hallstatt Lahn Traveltime is 40 mins. 2.

Hello again. In a couple of days I will be in Salzburg. Can someone suggest a restaurant with traditional food...off the beaten path? Also...the best (subjective) pastry shop. Thanks :) Henry
hello! Is it more polite to say "guten tag" or "Grüss Gott" in Salzburg, Austria? Henry :)
Hi all: Could not find specific info on trains from Salzburg to Bratislava. Do I need to book in advance, how long is a trip, how much does it cost (nothing extra fancy is needed); how often do they depart and from what station? How much is a taxi from rail road station to the city center (both in Salzburg and Bratislava)? THANK YOU.
Can ayone give me recommendations on what to do 2 1/2 days in Salzburg with a baby? I was thinking of walking around downtown (going to the cathedral, Mozart's house or birthplace, which one is better?), going to the fortress, Mirabell, do a self guided tour of the locations of Sound of Music as I dont think a tour is an option with a baby (that may start crying). Is it a boat tour recommended?, What about the lake district?. Any other recommendations?. Thank you
We are coming to Salzberg for 6 days August 23 to 29. Are there any hotels or bed and breakfast that have kitchenette facilities for a couple? WinnipegRuth
We would be visiting Salzburg for 1 day. What can I fit into the schedule of less than 24 hours? We will arrive in Salzburg at 14:00 hours on a Monday and leave at noon the following day. Any suggestions?
We are going to be in Salzburg later this month for two nights before leaving on a Danube River cruise. What is the best way to get from Salzburg to Passau, Germany? The train is not very direct; rail route heads back towards Munich quite a bit and involves a change of trains to get to Passau. Is there a more direct way? Bus? If not, we will use rail and the Bayern ticket. Also what can we expect weather-wise in mid-April along the Danube to Budapest? Thanks much.
We've booked tickets at the Stiftskeller in Old Town for the Mozart Dinner Concert. If it starts at 8pm, and should last perhaps 1.5-2 hrs, how safe is it for 2 older ladies to get back to our hotel near the train station if we had to walk at that time of night? (not sure what kind of public transportation there is from where we are leaving from).
I will be going to Salzburg. I only have one and a half days in Salzburg before leaving for Innsbruck. In your opinion which place would you prefer to visit - the Ice Cave in Werfen or Salzkammergut or both. Are there tours to these places? or can we use the public transport to each these destinations.
I'll be studying in Prague this summer and want to go to Austria for a long weekend. While I'd like to see Salzburg I want to go to surrounding places and enjoy the Alps. What towns would you recommend? Any advice you could give would be appreciated. Thank you!
My mother and I plan to go from Salzburg on a Tuesday in the early a.m. (either 6am or 7am-ish) to go to Hallstatt for a couple hours, then return to Salzburg and take another train to go to Hallein to tour the salt mine and back to Salzburg (yes, all in 1 day). If we buy one of those Einfach-Raus tickets from the train station at 6 or 7 in the morning, does it cover the train rides and the public bus from Hallein station to the salt mine (and back again) for the whole day? Or, is there a restriction if I buy it at that time of the morning, when will it expire? Don't wish to be tossed off the train....
So I am planning a trip for next spring. We are planning for Italy, Germany, and Austria. However, I am having an issue finding information on transportation between Desenzano, Lake Garda (where we will be staying in Italy) and Salzburg. We do not want to have to fly, or use a rental car in between. To make matters worse, our trip will be for 20 days so we will most likely have a lot of luggage to worry about/drag around. I'm unsure if any taxi services are available for that distance, or if any trains connect in between that can accomodate all of our luggage. If anyone has any tips and information, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
We are planning to book the Mozart Dinner/Concert at this venue in April. From browsing different web pages, I'm getting the idea that this restaurant has more than one dining option available. One hall, the Baroque Hall, is for the concert but I'd like to confirm that there are other dining areas in case we want to sample something different on another day? Also, we will be coming from the train station area for the concert. Is it fairly easy to locate our dining hall if we are walking there?
Does Salzburg form part of Bavaria? Can the DB Bayert one day card used on busses in Salzburg
Hello all I was wondering is the best way to get from Salz to Berchtesgaden by car or bus? I want to visit all the places in that area, Berghof, Obersalzburg etc etc and I was wondering if any of you guys could advise. I won't be visiting until April so i'm hoping the coldest of the weather will be gone by then. Is a car the best way to get there and how much time would i need to see everything? I'm guessing at least 4-5 hours anyway... Are there tour groups running to and from there from Salz? Or is there a bus available that will take you to that area? Also, if there is other stuff in and around Salzburg in a similar historical category, I would love to hear about it. Thank you all! DG
