IMO, the only way to keep on that tight schedule is to use a taxi, not the bus.

And even thaat might not work because of daily rush hour traffic jams near the rodoviaria.

I agree, you would be better getting a taxi in that time frame.

Unless your Portuguese is very good, maybe the meter will do, but you could try for R$30-40 (because of rush hour traffic holding things up).

okay, thanks a lot Bahiana77! my portuguese is not so good, i'm just learning i'm a beginner i've another problem: i'm looking on the web for the bus/onibus from Salvador to Porto Seguro and find only Aguia Branca: it leaves Salvador at 8.00 p.m. and it's really hard to take it, because i arrive in Salvador airport at 6.00 p.m.; do you know if there is other bus company? because I found also Sao Geraldo but the web site is down: maybe Sao Geraldo doesn't work no more on that way? last one: may I book the Aguia Branca from Italy by web?

If you're trying to leave the same night, I think that Aguia Branca departure time is the one choice. The buses (AG usually runs two departing at that exact same time, because of demand) on that route all travel together in a convoy. The bus gets into Porto Seguro at 7 in the morning. Maybe there's a late flight you could get. Or wait until the next morning.

To the best of my knowledge, that is correct. Aguia Branca run the overnight service to Porto Seguro. The taxi should cost you at least R$40,00.

At some times of year, there are more people (tourists and locals) travelling. And you don't say when (what time of year) you intend to go. Aguia Branca usually puts two buses on the Salvador-Porto Seguro night route that run one behind the other along the road. Both have usually been full on the nights I have taken this bus, but I have no way of knowing if any of the passengers bought tickets ahead of time or on arrival at the rodoviaria.

i'll be there on 19 september, i'm planning to go to itacarè/barra grande and porto seguro/arraial/trancoso, then come back to salvador i think september is low season there, isn't it? i'm arriving by plane from europe late afternoon (around 6.00 p.m.) and immediately want to leave salvador, doesn't matter if we go to porto seguro or itacarè first, it depends which bus we can take! i've seen there is other buses later, around 10.45 p.m. for Ubaitaba, so maybe we can go there first do you think is impossible to find place at last minute on the bus also for ubaitaba? cause to me is impossible to reserve from italy and i'm not sure about time i'll arrive in rodoviaria thanks a lot for your kind reply

I think you ought to have a little more patience, stay in Salvador overnight, buy your tickets the next day, and arrange your trip in a more logical order, instead of just rushing off on the first bus to come along.
