girona to salou

by clangers1 Online Now Jan 25, 2010 at 8:06 AM

Flying into Girona airport on a Friday at 9.30pm heading to Salou/Portafuntura with 2 adults and 4 children and looking for some advice on the most cost effective way to travel to salou i.e. bus, trains etc. and was looking at below options: I) Think of staying in a hotel in Girona city on the Friday night and was wondering if there is a train from Girona city direct to Salou. If this possible would you know the train cost and could you recommend some low cost accommodation on Girona city? II) Other option was to get bus to Barcelona and stay there overnight and get train to salou the next morning. What do you think?>

Well, first of all, Girona wasn't the best choice if your destination is Salou. The Reus airport is closer and so is the Barcelona airport. But...anyway. You can see on a map how far Salou is from Girona. You can get a bus from Girona airport to Barcelona and then take a train from Barcelona to Salou. I doubt there is a bus directly from Girona to Salou, but you might be able to find one I think staying the first night in Girona might be the better option. I think it would be very late by the time you got to your hotel in Salou otherwise. You can look up the train times on the RENFE site and the Girona airport site has all the the ground transportation info posted there.

Thanks Badger Im coming back through barcelona so only issue is on way over from Girona airport. Wont be going to Salou till the next morning so will check if direct bus to salou available from Girona city. My other idea was to get bus from girona airport and stay in barcelona overnight get train next morning as im actually staying in Sanguli. Wonder would hotel etc. be cheaper in Girona then Barecelona and would there be family rooms that can take 2 adults and 4 kids? Also any reasonable priced hotels near the train station in either Girona or Barcelona would be a factor.

Well, I'm afraid I'm not much help. I don't know Girona or Salou very well. The only Sanguli I can find on the map is a camping area just south of the main part of Salou. There appears to be a train line right by there. It might be less hassle to stay in Girona for the first night rather than Barcelona. Coming into a large city like Barna late at night when you don't know your way around and you are toting 2 kids is not that fun. Girona is a nice little town and worth spending at least a few hours poking around in the morning. Be sure and visit the Rambla there and the old Jewish ghetto, El Call. I lived in Barcelona when I was there so I don't know hotels very well, but there are a lot of resources on line.
