hi im of to salou with my sis and our 2 daughters im going for 2 weeks and have a tight budget what would be the price of a half desent family meal for me and my daughter we have already bout a 14 day pass for port adventura which includes one free day at the water park what other excursions would you recomend and what prices would they cost ty happy holidays all xxx
A 14-days pass to Port Aventura? Well, I think it is far too much, but... A good daytrip from Salou is Tarragona. There are interesting Roman ruins (maybe your children are too young) but the city centre is very nice, and the promenade over the seafront. You can go there by train, sorry no idea about the prices. About price of meals, the best way to save money in Spain is doing as we locals do: have the main meal at lunchtime. And of course, avoid the touristy places. Spanish people does not eat bad paella at ridiculous prices, go to any place plenty of locals and you probably would hit the good one. If you go to any restaurant that offers "menu del dia" you can have a complete 3-courses meal from 6-8 euros, of course there are much expensive places. I don't know if you can bring your own meals to Port Aventura (it was not allowed when I was there a few years ago) and the restaurants inside the park were a total rip-off (as usual in touristy places). Of course, another cheap option is buying the meals in groceries/supermarkets (there is plenty of ready-to-eat salads, etc) and eat these in a park or beach if the weather is good... Enjoy!

Hi again Mich You’re right, a 14-days for that price is a real bargain… (I thought you have paid much more). There are other places of interest in this area, but sorry I don’t know how to reach these by public transport (I always went there by my own car). I suggest you going the first day to the tourist office (maybe there is one at the airport) and ask there for maps, brochures and train-buses timetables. I love the old monasteries of Poblet, Santes Creus and Vallbona (well, maybe you are not into that stuff, but could be a good alternative for a rainy day). Montblanc and Prades are medieval towns. Even Barcelona is not so far away. Have a look here for more ideas and info: http://www.costadaurada.org Have a nice time!

Re. Andorra: IMO now it is not the "shoppers paradise" it used to be. In fact many people from here (Barcelona) used to go to Andorra only for shopping some years ago. Now, the common feeling is that, if you go there for any other reason (skiing, hiking, or just on the way to anywhere else), you may profit and buy something. But the price differences are not so great anymore to compensate the travel costs. I have been to Andorra many times, and the last times I did not buy anything. You should compare with the prices at home, besides many times the goods may not have international warranty. The only items I like to but there are the ski/mountaineering clothes and gear, there are great variety. You may ask in the Andorra forum, maybe you will have other opinions there. Enjoy your hols!

Hi Michelle, Andorra is a helluva long way from Salou and is pretty difficult to get to without a car unless you are on an excursion which would cost plenty. I would say forget it! Tobacco is so cheap in Spain you should get it there. Also, there is no limit to what you can bring back for your own use from an EU country. Duty free is strictly limited. Be careful not to bring a mix of different brands as this looks as if it is for resale and might be confiscated. The customs people have adopted an arbitrary limit on the amounts but the reality is that they have no solid grounds for that attitude if you have paid duty in any EU member country. Unless I am greatly mistaken, the price and quality of clothing in Spain is nowhere near as good as in the British Isles, at least not if you shop around here..

Mich, I say again, you have to buy in tobacconists in Spain, then no limit. Don't buy in duty free at airport. Have a great time. Colin
