Salou-Barcelona and back !!!!!

by Mum+2kids Online Now Aug 14, 2004 at 12:36 PM

Hiya, me again, we are going to salou next week for 2 weeks, so whilst there we are visiting barcelona stadium and zoo , just wondered is there any other nice places to visit, for me/partner, and 2 boys age 4 yrs and 18mths ??? If so where, and would it be better to stay overnight in barcelona, or come back to salou, how many miles roughly between them, or how much in taxi etc.... Also any recommendations to stay 1 night in barcelona would be great, somewhere nice/clean but not too expensive...... Thanx Claire xxxxxx :)

If you're going to barcelona, you have to see the cathedral, built by gaudi, might not sound too interesting but it really is worth it, check out my spain page to see a pic of the cathedral, you can't really miss it it is right in the center. Salou is about an hour or so drive to barcelona, you can get a couch, i believe there is one in the old town(not the tourist town). The ramblers in barcelona(in the center as well) is basicly a long street with all strnge things on it, from street performers to shops and games arcades. If I remember right there is a cheap place to stay just off the ramblers. head down the ramblers towards the roundabout(about three of them) half way down on the left hand side there should be an opening to a enclosed square, as you go into the square, it's the first building on the left, it has a large yellow sign, unfortunatly i can't remember the name, but if it comes to me before you go i will mail it to you. Anything else you want to know just ask.

Hi Claire, Barcelona is about 70 miles from Salou. The only sensible way to go, in my opinion, is by train. There are loads of trains. Do not get off at Sants station. Go to the next one which is much more central. It is up to you whether to spend the money to stay overnight, but with small kids I don't reckon you'll be much into clubbing. I think you'd be better to go early morning and return to Salou in the evening. The stadium and the zoo are quite far apart and most of your day will probably be taken up with these two. Having said that, maybe Sants station would be better for the stadium after all. Check a map. I would take a taxi from the station. They are cheap and other forms of transport would be hellish with the kids. Don't even think about hiring a car! If you need any help with this, just let me know. Someone else will probably also help with info. Colin
