The site will also give you estimated driving times, but you should allow more. Roads are often congested.

From Salisbury take the road north out to Amesbury A345 where you will meet the main dual carriageway road A303. Continue towards London on the A303 and you will eventually merge into the M3 motorway (Southampton to London). Continue on the M3 until you get to the M25 (London orbital motorway) and follow the signs to Gatwick. M25 then M23.
The main roads tend to get congested at 'peak times' especially the M3 and M25. So allow an extra 30 minutes. If you are travelling during the day - say from 9.30 to 4pm then you should have little delays. If you want or can check up on traffic conditions before you depart you could look at : http://www.trafficengland.com
I tend to use Google Maps for Driving Directions these days but the AA one is probably as good.

I have used the more southerly route Salisbury towards Southampton then joining the motorway around Southampton and continue on this M27 road along the south coast past Chichester then later turning north near Angemering on the Worthing to London road A24. This is probably longer and will not be as quick (allow 2 hours 30 minutes) but is an alternative if the roads around London are blocked or very slow.

Rough distance in miles from Salisbury to Gatwick Airport is 77 miles or 123.89 Kilometers. If you are in a road vehicle maintaining an average speed of 40mph (64 kmh), it would take you approximately 1.9 hours to travel from Salisbury to Gatwick Airport.
Please refer this site to find road directions step by step.

The AA site I gave in my first post also lists directions step-by-step. Both the AA and RAC are national UK automobile associations, and both are reliable.

However, even their timings are only estimates. It is not possible to give exct timings for any UK journey: our roads are congested and weather often affects traffic flow.

It is always best to allow more time than you think you will need....the surprise when one makes good time is always very pleasant. :-)

Also, watch out for speed cameras on the A303. There's one just past Amesbury
