I have been to Saint john but only for a few hours off a cruise ship. Still, the beauty of the island is awesome. I have heard about Maho Bay and would like more first hand advice. Also, are there any other budget accomdations on the island?
Our family has stayed at Maho Bay for the past 3 summers. If you are ecologically minded and love a natural setting, this is paradise. If you like upscale camping (not sleeping on the ground!), a cottage tent is75. per night with bathhouses close by. Harmony Studios is more of a condo arrangement with large balcony, awesome views of Little Maho. Everything is connected by wooden boardwalks and access to both Little and Big Maho beaches. A general store, watersports rentals, awesome glassblowing studio (they use the beer and wine bottles from the restaurant), ceramics studio and lots of opportunities to take a day sail from Little Maho. The food at the restaurant is very good and plentiful.
