Amelia Island Jan 13, 2015 at 7:12 AM

My parents (80 & 76) are planning to drive from Hartford to Amelia Island later this month. I don't think they should be driving this distance at their ages and my Mom is absolutely terrified. They are renting a condo for two months so they would need to take periodic trips to local grocery store to stock shelves. I was thinking I'd buy them airline tickets in lieu of their plan. What transportation services are available down there? Renting a car for two months could be prohibitively expensive. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

      Question about the canal/harbour waters

by pieter_jan_v Online Now Oct 14, 2013 at 9:41 AM

On behalf of our new member SkipG, I enter his intended questions:

We're expecting to enter St. Augustine, FL mid-day/early afternoon Tuesday, to get a repair specialist there aboard.

As we don't yet know where he is, and whether he'll have someplace for us to come to, and, related to our entry, two questions:

Are the current deep spots in the channel (I know they've been dredging) well marked?

Are there any anchorage spots anywhere in the vicinity of the city (vs moorings)?

      Thanks.

My family is planning to come to the area in July. We originally wanted to go to the panhandle but are worried about the June grass, which was terrible last time we were there. We have never been to St. Augustine, and although some us are very interested in the history and the Old City, most would prefer to rent a house at the beach. There are 4 adults and 4 teenagers. I have read that some of the beaches are shelly, not sandy. Which is the best beach area, and also any rental advice (not terribly expensive) would be appreciated.

We love the beach, flea markets, resale antique shops and shopping and want to stay somewhere close to both shopping and beach, we are on a budget, so where would be a great safe place area to look for a hotel if we have to choose we would choose closest to beach!? Also any places fun we should not miss? Ive seen Conch house has you eat in a treehouse, we are going to travel toward Jacksonville to take ferry across to Singletons seafood house WE LOVE and have been to before, but any advice would be great!
