We have been to St. Augustine several times and have always wanted to visit the oldest Methodist Church there, but it has been closed to visitors. We will be there again on April 22 for a few days and wondered if it is now open. Robert Sharpe / res1939@aol.com

    • Beach advice

by GeorgiaAnnie Online Now Mar 16, 2013 at 4:43 AM

My family is planning to come to the area in July. We originally wanted to go to the panhandle but are worried about the June grass, which was terrible last time we were there. We have never been to St. Augustine, and although some us are very interested in the history and the Old City, most would prefer to rent a house at the beach. There are 4 adults and 4 teenagers. I have read that some of the beaches are shelly, not sandy. Which is the best beach area, and also any rental advice (not terribly expensive) would be appreciated.

Hi We will be arriving in St. A on Fri 11/2/12. I'd like a reasonably priced, clean hotel near the Historic areaa. If that's not doable, what is the parking situation on Saturday. We'd like to spend the day as tourists before leaving Sat. evening.

I will be traveling alone with my 13 yr old daughter, we will be in Florida the end of next week and decided based on pics on internet to spend a few days (Sun - Wed) in St Augustine. We love the beach, flea markets, resale antique shops and shopping and want to stay somewhere close to both shopping and beach, we are on a budget, so where would be a great safe place area to look for a hotel if we have to choose we would choose closest to beach!? Also any places fun we should not miss? Ive seen Conch house has you eat in a treehouse, we are going to travel toward Jacksonville to take ferry across to Singletons seafood house WE LOVE and have been to before, but any advice would be great!

Hello, We are coming to St. Augustine, from Maryland, for a few days before heading to Orlando at the end of September. We will be staying 3 nights in St. Augustine Beach. We will be heading to the beach for 1-2 days, but we are going to spend 1 day “sight seeing.” I am hoping that we can visit something that is historic and/or educational for our children (ages 9, 7 and 3) since they will be missing a week and a half of school for our vacation. Do you have any suggestions of “must do’s?” Thanks so much!

Coming to St. Augustine soon for a romantic getaway with the hubby. I'd love some recommendations on a good place to stay, somewhere where we'd not have to drive much to get places. We love to walk everywhere while vacationing, nothing beats it for getting the real feel of a new place:) We also heard that there is a restaurant where you can dine in a treehouse type thing, any info on that? Thanks everyone!

by jaway Online Now Feb 6, 2010 at 3:54 PM

I know it seems like an odd question, but I'm proposing next weekend and I'd like to take her to a restaurant afterward that makes jewelry look good. Some of you will know what I'm talking about. Usually track lighting or can lighting will make jewelry sparkle extra. Anyone know a restaurant like that in Saint Augustine?

by SuzannGoss Online Now Nov 13, 2009 at 3:30 PM

I have a set of Nikko stoneware that I purchased 20+ years ago. From time to time, though not for at least the past 7 years, I was able to purchase additional pieces of the same stoneware at a shop on St George St in St Augustine. The pattern that I have is solid white in an octagonal pattern. The store also had other colors and Christmas dishes in the same pattern. Is that store still in St Augustine? How do I contact their website?

PLEASE help me contact this shop on St.George St !!!

by tinlynnm Online Now Aug 11, 2008 at 2:45 PM

I know this is a shot in the dark, but I was in a shop on St. George street recently and I need the name/number for it. This is all I remember: Its on the right (maybe 1/3 of the way in -?) as you enter from Cathedral Pl. Its a gift shop, where I bought a small "hippie" bag and I remember there being other novelty bags. 1 or 2 stores down (on the same side and down a hallway) was tiny cigar shop and a new age magic shop. There was a bench near the entrance. If anyone knows the name of this gift shop I will be forever indebted. I'm kicking myself for not buying a particular item.... Thanks a ton!

Driving down the coast via route 1A

by jimkpa Online Now Jun 2, 2008 at 9:32 AM

Hello VT members. I want your advice on a driving route. Our family is driving down I-95 from PA and will spend a day and overnight Friday in St Augustine. We will end up in Orlando to check in Saturday night. Is it a good idea to take 1A down to Daytona Beach then get I-4 over to Orlando. I am sure it will take twice as long as I95 but thought it would be scenic and memorable. Maybe stopping along way to walk out on beach if possible. Specifically, will I have to pay tolls to get down to Daytona at bridges and State Parks? How many? Should I do it? Jim
