I'm staying four nights in Kigali with a friend and he's keen to go to a gym at least once. I'm struggling to find one or any information on 'dropping in' rather than memberships. (We're staying in Kimihurura).
I'll be camping at the Uwinka site to do some hiking on the former 'coloured trails'. The guidebook suggests that the attendants at the site can magic me up a tent, sleeping bag etc but I'm concerned if this is actually true. I don't want to arrive and find I'm sleeping on the grass in the rain! Also, I'm guessing I'll have to provide cooking pots for the fire? Can I leave these behind when I leave as I don't particularly want to carry them across the rest of East Africa as I continue my travels?! Can I buy everything I need in Huye?
I am staying a few days in Kigali before travelling on to Ruhengeri. Can someone give me information about the bus I need to catch eg. Location of embarkation, where to buy the tickets, approximate price?
We are giving a baby shower for a Rowandan family. The baby is a girl. We are looking for a theme for the party.
We have been told as new tourists coming in to help at a school and orphanage outside of Kigali, that Nakumatt Store has almost everything one would need? Is this true? Or what place is better? We will be looking for snacks for students, a large multipurpose bowl, dish and clothing soaps, & possibly 2 helmets for riding the mopeds. Thanks for any help you can give. Shari Shelton
Im an indian,at the end of this month shifted to rwanda for job.wat are the things i want to carry and also i want to knw the life in rwanda.
Hello VTers - it's been a while!
I'm beginning to plan our first adventure for 2 years and I'm so excited that the choice seems quite overwhelming!
It's just a 3-weeker, but I want an exciting, varied and beautiful itinerary.
We want to visit somewhere new and I'm looking for help with ideas.
Currently, Israel & Rwanda are top runners, but Mongolia was a hot favourite for a while, but was dropped because I decided we'd need longer than 3 weeks.
I love rivers and jungle. I like to walk. My favourite countries are Turkey and Nepal.
I love little, beautiful lodges without electricity sat in the middle of nowhere.
I like to cross borders by land.
Could anyone please give me some ideas for itineraries for Rwanda, Israel or share your favourite travel adventure if it sounds like it might fit the bill? I'm looking for inspiration!
Big thanks and happy travels :-)

I understand October and November are the 'short' rainy season. Does this mean that its likely to rain every day non-stop, or just for a few hours per day? My plan was to visit in late November and travel through Uganda,Rwanda and maybe Burundi overland. Is the weather likely to affect road travel between main towns at this time?
I am travelling to Rwanda in May for 2 nights in the Volcanoes national Park to see the Gorillas. I have been quoted $200 transfer each way (2 people) as well as $200 for a transfer into the park which amounts to $600 for 3 days. This seems extremely overpriced. Is this the going rate?
What is best way for using a cell phone between Rwanda and USA? Buy a SIM card there? Pre-paid cards? Some other way? Thank you!
Hi all, can anyone tell me if taking pictures or video of the city center allowed? will it attract police or plain clothed police attention, Do i need permission if i am a tourist who just wants to share everything he sees on you tube and virtualtourist, and secondly what about the people's reactions.
Hello there VT friends! My coworkers are in Rwanda this week and looking to connect with some locals in Kigali. My husband will be passing through Kigali in transit for 6 hours next week.

I'll be traveling to India (landing in Mumbai) Dec 2-13. I'm based in Goma so it looks like Kigali is the closest location for an Indian Embassy/Consulate.
Has a US citizen experienced obtaining an Indian visa at the Consulate in Kigali before? What was required (presumably 2 passport photos, application, fee, itinerary, proof of yellow fever vaccination)? How long did it take?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

I will be going on a Gorilla Treking trip for one day in Rwanda at the beginning of August. I was wondering if I could get away with wearing cross-training type shoes or if I should plan on wearing hiking boots since I will only be doing this type of walking for one day. Also, I was wondering if I should be concerned with snakes during the trek? How bad will the mosquitos be as well? We will be going to the Virunga mountains for the gorilla trek.
Any information would be appreciated.
we ( 2 person) are visiting the north of the country in Oktober and would like to stay in Kinigi. We found to places were we would like to stay ( Mountain Gorilla Nest or the Kinigi Guest house) Could you give us mor information about them and tell as the prices for two weeks.
My husband and I (Canadians in our early 30's) are going to Rwanda for about 6 days as the first part of a 4 week trip to Africa. We will land in Kigali and spend a couple of days there first (exploring the city, memorials, etc.), and would then like to take a couple of days (1-2 nights) and go up to Ruhengeri and Gisenyi. We aren't planning to do the gorillas... I'm sure they are spectacular, but we are not interested enough in them to pay the price... but really just want to get a sense of the countryside - I hear the area around the Kivu is some of the most beautiful on the continent. I have also read a fantastic book by an American woman who started an orphanage in Gisenyi, and I would love to visit it.
So my questions are:
- What is the best way to do this (e.g., rent a car? bus? taxi/driver?)
- Any recommendations of specific things to see?
- Obviously "safe" is a relative term when visiting Africa, and we are prepared to use caution, but how concerned do we need to be about visiting an area so close to Goma & the Congolese border? I have heard from other visitors that they had no problems, but want to check...
Any thoughts are welcome! Thanks.
Isaro- Is any one able to tell me if this is a Kinyarwandan word? And, if so, what it means?
Much thanks to you!
I am planning a trip to Kigali for 6 months or so.
I am also trying to learn french, and was wondering if they speak french there on a day to day basis, in the markets, shops etc? If I spoke to them in French, would I get a french response? I need volunteer work in an NGO, and people are telling me Kigali would be good for this, but if they don't speak french, I'll need to look elsewhere! But I love East Africa!
Thanks in advance, I'm so stuck, any vague information you have would be great!
