Getting to know Russia in 10-14 days

by Poling Online Now Aug 7, 2012 at 3:39 AM

This is a basic plan for a 10-day trip to Russia and I have so many questions: 4 days in SPG: State Hermitage Museum/Peterhof 4 days in the Golden Ring 2 days in Moscow: Red Square / Kremlin 1. As I have a 14-day visa, I'd like to check what I can add for the country. 2. For the Golden Ring, I should stay in Suzdal? 3. I want to try traditional Russian food, could one recommend a restaruant? The price range is better below 20 EURO. 4. If my travel period is between mid-sept to mid-Oct, would the fountain at Peterhof/Hermitage be closed? What will the opening hours in Oct? 5. I heard that hotel registration is required for stay of 7 days, is this one for the whole period even I stay in different location/hotesl? Thank you.

    1) you mean what other places? between StP and Moscow you may choose Kostroma, Vologda, Novgorod. 3) even fast-food chains (Teremok for example) has a traditional Russian cuisine 4) it looks like the season will be over at October 14 (check info here: peterhofmuseum.ru/page.php?i...

    2. No, Suzdal is very inconvenient to be the base for exploring Russian Golden ring. (There is no train station, only buses from Vladimir) The best way to make it is devide it by parts and make several stops for the night in different towns. What way are you going to move between them? Do you rent a car or by public transport? Besides, in October and November we have a very short "light" part of the day, so you won't be able to see a lot in one day. The best examples of good Russian food and value for money will be in those small towns of the Golden Ring. Especially Yaroslavl. Teremok or Moo-moo are just fast food wich looks like Russian cuisine. But the food there is quite quality (according to different tests)

Hi again! Read about Russian Golden Ring en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden... I advice to stay in Moscow and do short 1–day trip to main Golden ring towns. As Suzdal, I think 1 night would be enough. Morning start from Moscow, explore Suzdal, night in Suzdal hotel, next morning go back to Moscow with stop in Vladimir and explore this city. Russian cuisine: agreed with Teremok, Moo Moo (Black-White cow label) – no. If you ready to spend a bit more then20, I recommend visiting Pushkin Café on Pushkin square in Moscow and take a business lunch. I found fountains in Petergoff will be closed 14-15 September. It’ll be great performance night September 15. citybooking.ru/en/news-of-st... I have never head about 7 day staying in one hotel for registration. Write to your hotel and ask if you doubt. Good luck!

Suggested route by trains: St-Pete's - Tver' - Moscow - Alexandrov - Rostov the Great - Yaroslavl - Kostroma. 7 places - 7 days. Add extra days to Moscow and St-Pete's staying. If you fly away from Moscow, another route: St-Pete's - Tver' - Moscow - Alexandrov - Rostov the Great - Yaroslavl - Ivanovo - Vladimir - Moscow Skip 2-3 towns if it's too much. Time and cost of train trips for example: St-Pete's - Tver' 6.5 hours,60 Tver' - Moscow 2 hours,20 Tickets better buy online in advance by credit card.
