I'm in Rovaniemi for one day tomorrow and wanted to visit Arktikum in the morning and then travel to Ranua Zoo at about 1300. Based on the Ranua website, this should have been possible, however, as tomorrow is Ascension day, the usual 1320 bus isn't running so I would have to catch the 845 bus and come back at 1017 (which only gives me half an hour at the zoo) or at 1720 (in which case Arktikum will be closed). I've had a look at car rentals but these are expensive. Is there any other way to get there by public transport? Or is someone heading that way around 1300 so that I can catch a ride there? Any suggestions/advice appreciated here or to marzlmr@gmail.com.
Hi everybody I would like to rent a seakayak , a car where i can put the kayak on the roof, for 10 days. Does someone can give me direcciones, where I can get this in Rovaniemi.? Sincerely Andrea Ruettimann
We will visit Lappland in September (and are really looking forward to it, too!). We have rented a lovely cottage in the Ranua area some 80 km south of Rovaniemi. We will fly to Rovaniemi on a Saturday, arriving there around 6 p.m. Then wait for our luggage, pick up a car, so we should be set to start our vacation roundabout 6.30 p.m. Now my question: are there any supermarkets in or around Rovaniemi that are open late on Saturday evening or anytime on Sunday? Any help is much appreciated!
We will be in Lappland in September 2012 staying at a lovely cottage about 75 km southeast of Rovaniemi. Since it will be my husband's birthday during the time of our stay, I was wondering if any of you had a fun idea of how to make his birthday special. He has never been up north, so I was thinking of something ehm, rathe touisty like a Polar Circle "Bapism" or meeting Santa Claus or -hopefully- something even more exciting than that! Now, if any of the Rovaniemi VT members could dress up as Santa Claus, meet us to cross the Arctic Cirlce and have a hell of a VT meet together - that would be awesome!!!! The date is September 20th, 2012!!! All other ideas (like a walk through the woods with a local, a reindeer kissing him Happy Birthday or whatever) are highly appreciated! Thanks, folks!
My son (5) and I will go to Rovaniemi from March 24 for couple of days. We booked some optional tours for aurora and reindeer ride. We have ni idea how cold it is in Rovaniemi and I bough snow wear set for my son and I have heavy duty jacket. How cold it will be in Rovaniemi at night when we go to Aurora watching? We used to live in Alaska, U.S.A, so we know coldness. I also want to go shopping in Rovaniemi for my son. Tooys and books and local items. I reseach some and Prisma and Citymarket are the bigger department stores!? Is it closer to main town in Rovaniemi? Do you have any suggestions to go and must have items? We will go to Santa Clause village for sure!

My friend and I will be visiting Rovaniemi sometime during the first week of March. Neither of us are particularly loaded and I was hoping somebody may be able to recommend a cheap hostel/hotel for us to stay in. I'm not too bothered what the place is like so long as it's fairly close to town. Any other tips about Rovaniemi(particularly from locals)would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! David

Hi, I am going to travel to Finland this Christmas to go skiing and sight seeing and hopefully also see northern lights. The plan is to fly into Kittila airport then rent a car to drive to Levi to stay there. Also thinking of visiting Rovaniemi if accessable by car. I would appreciate anyone's advice on driving in winter in these areas. RYO
Hello, We are a family of 6 arriving by the 7.53 am train from Helsinki on the 7th of December. I was wondering if there is a cafeteria in the train station where to have a breakfast ? Is the train station cold or is it a warm enclosed place ? Which bus do we have to catch to get to the center ? At what time do they start ? Can you recommend a popular place in the center open early for a typical Finnish breakfast ? Kind regards, Chris from Spain
Good day. We are fishermen from Lithuania and we are interested in spending some time in Finland (Lapland) during the end of November. So we would like to know, what sort of fresh water fishing we will be introduced to? I mean, open water or ice fishing, lakes or rivers, types of fish? Also, if you don't mind telling us about the weather conditions in the region? And weather difficulties please. And lastly, we are traveling on our car. Thank you in advance for the info.

Hi all I will be traveling to Finland (Helsinki & Rovaniemi) in the month of October. Is there a chance to see northern lights in October? What will be the best location in Rovaniemi to see northern lights? I can alter my plan and visit later if there are fare chances to see northern lights later and weather is not too harsh at that time. I am also concerned about the weather. If I have to go to arctic circle (away from city), will I need more warm clothes in that case? Can they be rented locally? Also, I will be on tight budget, so will be traveling by bus in the city. How is the bus service in the city and how much does it cost? Any suggestion would be of great help!

Hi all, I am planning to go to Rovaniemi and Helsinki during Christmas. I would like to know how many days I should spend in these two places. My wife and another couple are visiting Rovaniemi in March. We intend to take different safaris, husky, reindeer, Santa Claus etc., during our six day stay, but we were wondering what to do during the other hours of the day as they only last for a few hours. This is my third visit to Rovaniemi (both previous visits during November)and I did not mind the cold weather, even though I used to go about only in my suit, as it was a business trip. But my wife and the other couple are a bit worried regarding the clothes they should wear. It would be appreciated if advice on the best clothing to wear is forwarded. Kiitos.
I am travelling to Rovaniemi next week (having left Australia some two months ago) and although I have several woolen jumpers, fleece etc with me I am now concerned about how cold it could get. I would like to take the train up from Helsinki overnight, spend one or two nights in Rovaniemi and then take either the day or overnight train back to Helsinki. Any advice on how cold it COULD get, good (but not too expensive) hotels, things to do/see would be very much appreciated.
