Could any one give me information on visiting cheese factories and chocolate factories nearby Hamilton and Rotorua? Thanks a lot.
I have been at this cheese factory in Waharoa - which is not too far from Hamilton, near Matamata (Lord of the Rings site Hobbiton): http://www.kaimai.co.nz/default.aspx This chocolate factory is just outside Hamilton, in Pukete: http://www.donovanschocolates.co.nz/

Thanks for the information. But I am not able to view the address, contact telephone number and opening hours of the cheese factory. Could you please tell me? So the chocolate factory is open for visitors?

Sorry, did not pay attention with visiting a chocolate factory, I only checked the café. I have only been to the cheese factory - not very exciting but nice cheese, food and coffee. Do not know if you can get into the chocolate factory. But I do not think so, as it is a small factory, like quite a number of other such factories that produce fine chocolates. You cannot even visit Whittacker's in Porirua which is NZ's second biggest chocolate producer. In fact, the only chocolate factory I know of you can visit in New Zealand is Cadbury in Dunedin. So really far away from Hamilton and Rotorua, not even on the same island. The same applies to Richfield's in Christchurch which you cannot visit. At She Chocolate in Governor's Bay near Christchurch you can make chocolate yourself. There might be other such places in the North Island but I do not know about them. Perhaps locals know about it? One tip: Contact the tourist information centres (i-site) in Hamilton and Rotorua to find out more.
