Rome airport as a transfer station

by gamma28md Online Now Aug 2, 2012 at 9:20 AM

I am travelling from Beirut, Lebanon to Paris on Alitalia with a connection in Rome. Where do I go through Customs and Immigration? Rome will be the first stop in the EU. Thanks

It is my understanding that as you are entering the Schengen Area (not the EU) in Rome that is where you will go through border control/immigration (which is not the same as Customs). You will also go through a security check: adr.it/web/aeroporti-di-roma... Border control comes before baggage reclaim and is 'airside' (that is, beyond security). If your bags are being transferred directly to the Paris flight (as I would expect them to be but check with Alitalia) then you will not need to go through baggage reclaim or 'landside' unless you need to change terminals (and maybe not even then).
