Vatican Stanzas

by lenyabloko Online Now Jun 24, 2012 at 9:55 PM

Are the Stanzas part of the Vatican Museum? Recalling from 20 years ago - I could not see the Stanza Signature with Raphael's School Of Athens. Was it temporary closed or is it off limits for visitors?

You can visit the rooms virtually on the official Vatican website: mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/SDR... and they are accessible via the Vatican Museums: mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/SDR... but, of course, anything can be closed at any time anywhere. You will want to buy your Vatican Museums ticket online anyway, to avoid queues: mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/MV_...

Yep, leics is right that you can "normally" see them as part of the Museums...one of the Official Spousal Unit's favorite memories of Rome was realizing that she was standing in the room with the School of Athens - a painting that we had been taught about at length in our political philosophy courses - and that not only was she right next to the painting but that there was not a soul in the room...no other visitors, no guard, nobody...she could have reached out and touched it...oh, for the good old days when you see things without having to peer through hordes of tourists...
