Does anyone know how many churches have been built here? I understood the base was a mythraim, followed by three or four churches, but would like to know more. Thankyou.

I think there are four churches total. There is extensive diagramming of the excavations in the church itself, but it can be a little confusing. Pretty amazing site though.

Actually the churches are two. The upper dating 12C and the lower basilica dating 4C. The lower church was built on the ruins of two houses from republican times. One of them was converted in 3C into a mithraeum, a small temple for the cult of the god Mithras, which is still well preserved. Maria

Gee, I don't remember how many churches, but it sure went down a long way and was a bit creepy, especially close to closing time. Could hear the water getting closer all of the time. Pretty interesting place really. Linda
