Sounds good to me...this allows a little slop time in case your flight arrive late anyway...and you can start your vacation off right by having an "espresso corretto" first thing in the morning (an espresso with a shot of brandy). :-0

You should have enough time, yes. And if you don't (if your inbound flight is delayed, for example) you'll probably be able to get your ticket swapped for a seat on the next available bus.

But I'd advise you not to dawdle too much and get to the bus stop well before departure. Chances are there'll be a long queue and you'll have no choice of seats if you're right at the back of it.

6:20 is good time, not a lot of trafic during this season, there should be only a flight from ABU DHABI - there are other two later, 6:50am, from HONG KONG and DOHA. By experience I could tell there are also three flights Alitalia from South America, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Rio supposted to be at seven but, depend from jet-streams, they use to arrive earlier, last month we were arrived just past six, almost one hour earlier. do not worry about passport control, if your flight will be chosen for scanning, you'll have to wait at baggage claim, may be no time for an expresso, never mind, early morning coffees and cappuccinos at Fiumicino are not the best, the 'cornetto' is cooked from frozen stuff :(  surely you'll have better one downtown. The 'espresso corretto' (with alcohol) it's used more close to Venice, they use 'sgnappa' which is grappa (grape spirit), hic!

If I understood well the bus stop is not very far from where you'll get out from airport.

Am going to ask what may appear strange and i know long ago but 1977 in cinque cento there was a public bus both selling 24hr hop on/off bus ticket for 1,500 lire--was long ago eh!!! OK so place has changed but does public bus still have 24hr or even three day bus ticket/pass

Yes, it does...and the tickets cover the trams, and the Metro and even the commuter train out to Ostia Antica.

You can buy one day (BIG 6 euro), 3 day (BTI 16.50) or 7 day (CIS 24) tickets. Info here:

    http://www.atac.roma.it/page.asp?p=14">http://www.atac.roma.it/page.asp?p=14

You just need to validate them the first time you use them (the Metro entrance machines do that automatically).

I've found the easiest place to buy them is from the newsagents stands in Termini bus station, which adjoins Termini railway station (go out through the main concourse with the ticket offices and their queues).

""in cinque cento" heh heh, I wondered what you meant the Fiat 500?...nooo, you meant Piazza dei Cinquecento, the piazza in front of the train station.

Note that there are now several hop-on/hop-off buses, but I can't image that they run 24 hours. Oh, maybe you meant a ticket good for 24 hours (duh)...actually, my recollection is that these buses (note: they require a separate ticket from the passes that leics described) have 48 hour options as well...take a look at the very helpful official tourism site at turismoroma.it/infoviaggio_c...">turismoroma.it/infoviaggio_c... and look at "Tourist buses"...

Hmmmn, I have also seen other buses just outside the Piazza, like "Roma Cristiana", etc.

Yes that's the place and gee when I stepped off the overnight train from Brindisi 36 years ago I was a bit over awed --piazza Cinquecento and my digs were a ten minute walk

So many things I've seen in the interim but you can't know how blessed I feel Torna a Roma !!!!

P Cinquecento was mostly dug-up when I was there last July (for the new Metro line, I think). I wonder if it'll be finished when you arrive? If not, the newstands for tickets are still there, but you'll have to walk a bit further round to find them; they're not as obvious as they were before all the digging.

There are several different hop-on buses but if you don't want the actual guided tour aspect they are expensive for their convenience. Public transport is better for simply getting from place to place, especially with a BIG or BTI.

Trastevere is very popular with visitors nowadays so, as in any tourist-popular area of the city, I think you'll do best to eat away from the main 'drags'.

Can't expect to go back 36 yrs and not find a change but opposed to that is with the web and good info you I think can adjust and cope OK

Have three days first up so BTI 3 day be excellent for me and on my way to Ancona I have two & a half days which I've earmarked the ancient port of Rome as a day trip

Finally I will have most of final day as my 8pm flight home I can leave it till 4/5 pm before heading to FCO
