Hallo my friends. Actually I speak no French at all and this might be a problem in my case, that's why I need your advice. We will be in Paris for some days and I was thinking of Lyon as a day trip. Lyon has been in my heart as the city of the novels I have read as a young girl and thus it is some kind of a "need" to see her. Of course, Lyon of the 19th century must be a past now, but nevertheless it is Lyon after all.
Sorry for the introduction. My main reason for asking your help is that Greek woman was born in Lyon in 1933 and her mother was burried in Lyon before she and her father returned to Greece. So, do you know if I have any chance of finding out the address of their house or the cemetary her mother was burried. Whom shall I contact in Lyon's town hall? Any advice?

I am trying to use www.tcl.fr website to find out if there any buses I can use, along with the T1 tram line, to get from Gare Part-Dieu to area around Hospital Center Saint-Joseph Et Saint-Luc, 20 Quai Claude Bernard. I've clicked on 'Getting around' and can see the drop down list of routes but I find them not very user friendly. Can anyone help?

Chamonix drive holiday early October ? Napoleon route RN 85

      Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Jan 24, 2015 at 10:30 PM

Group of 4 adults who are planning a driving holiday in France early Oct. Would love to see the mountains & are thinking of driving to Chamonix after some time in Cannes. I am wondering if the Napoleon route via Grasse is more scenic. I understand it takes longer than the autoroutes. Is it worth travelling to Chamonix or can we get good views of Mont Blanc along the way & stay elsewhere. We are not planning to hike just sight-see.

Will it have a lot of fogs or snow? What the road conditions will be?
      Thanks.

Hello! I'm thinking of bringing my almost two yr old to chamonix for three months Nov - Feb. We would be staying in a self contained apartment anywhere from 10mins to one hour from town centre (walking distance). Is chamonix a good place for toddlers or would we both get more out of it waiting a year or so. Thanks :)

    • Summer weather: end July/beg August

      Annecy Sep 25, 2014 at 10:44 AM

I was looking into staying in Avignon and Provence for 2 weeks next summer, but a few folks have said it would be way too hot and hectic in Avignon to enjoy it with young children (age 5 and 7). So, another friend has suggested Annecy. I know little about it, but thought I might as well start with the weather, with that being the nail in the Avignon coffin. From what I've scanned on wunderground, Annecy looks incredibly mixed: rain, sun, 30C, 19C all in one week. Is it really very changeable (with the mountains and all)? Is there much to do with kids if the weather turns cold and wet? I'm interested in wandering the old town/eating outside at night so kids can have some freedom, and swimming in the lake/cycling/walking a bit .... thanks for any advice. I'd just like to see if it is go-er b4 I plough as much research into it as I did Provence.

      From Lyon to Paris

      Lyon Sep 19, 2014 at 6:09 AM

      Hello, my friends!

I´ll be travelling around France with a rented car and need to go from Lyon to Paris. I was thinking of returning the car in Lyon and taking a flight or a train to Paris? Travelling by car and returning it in Paris is another option. What do you think?

How long is the trip from Lyon to Paris by car, by plane and by TGV?

How much does it cost each of these options?

      Thanks in advance!

Ski to Verbier and Courmayeur, is it possible without a car?

      Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Sep 18, 2014 at 5:00 AM

      Hi there,

I'll be traveling to Chamonix towards the end of January 2015. I'm not planning to rent a car and pretty much rely on using public transportation to move around. I'd like to try and ski in three countries! how difficult is to reach Verbier by using train or bus connections and and make it back to Cham the same day? I understand there is a direct shuttle bus every morning to Courmayeur center and takes about 45 mnts to get there. Say if you wanted to stay in town for dinner and get back to Chamonix around 9 or 10 pm with the bus, is this possible or do you have to take a very expensive taxi ride?

      Thank you.

      Hi,

Would like to spend a week in Rhône-Alpes.

      1. What would be the best time of the year to go there?
      2. Does it sound reasonable to stay the whole week in Lac du Bourget area as a base for day trips?
      3. How is public transportation? Should I rent a car?

I would be grateful for any advice.
