      Lyon airport - city transportation

      Lyon Nov 5, 2014 at 5:45 AM

Salut! Is there a cheaper way to get to the city other than Rhonexpress? 14.5 Euros for a 20 minute ride is quite expensive!

      Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Oct 20, 2014 at 9:36 PM

Hello! I'm thinking of bringing my almost two yr old to chamonix for three months Nov - Feb. We would be staying in a self contained apartment anywhere from 10mins to one hour from town centre (walking distance). Is chamonix a good place for toddlers or would we both get more out of it waiting a year or so. Thanks :)

    • Summer weather: end July/beg August

      Annecy Sep 25, 2014 at 10:44 AM

I was looking into staying in Avignon and Provence for 2 weeks next summer, but a few folks have said it would be way too hot and hectic in Avignon to enjoy it with young children (age 5 and 7). So, another friend has suggested Annecy. I know little about it, but thought I might as well start with the weather, with that being the nail in the Avignon coffin. From what I've scanned on wunderground, Annecy looks incredibly mixed: rain, sun, 30C, 19C all in one week. Is it really very changeable (with the mountains and all)? Is there much to do with kids if the weather turns cold and wet? I'm interested in wandering the old town/eating outside at night so kids can have some freedom, and swimming in the lake/cycling/walking a bit .... thanks for any advice. I'd just like to see if it is go-er b4 I plough as much research into it as I did Provence.

      From Lyon to Paris

      Lyon Sep 19, 2014 at 6:09 AM

      Hello, my friends!

I´ll be travelling around France with a rented car and need to go from Lyon to Paris. I was thinking of returning the car in Lyon and taking a flight or a train to Paris? Travelling by car and returning it in Paris is another option. What do you think?

How long is the trip from Lyon to Paris by car, by plane and by TGV?

How much does it cost each of these options?

      Thanks in advance!

Ski to Verbier and Courmayeur, is it possible without a car?

      Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Sep 18, 2014 at 5:00 AM

      Hi there,

I'll be traveling to Chamonix towards the end of January 2015. I'm not planning to rent a car and pretty much rely on using public transportation to move around. I'd like to try and ski in three countries! how difficult is to reach Verbier by using train or bus connections and and make it back to Cham the same day? I understand there is a direct shuttle bus every morning to Courmayeur center and takes about 45 mnts to get there. Say if you wanted to stay in town for dinner and get back to Chamonix around 9 or 10 pm with the bus, is this possible or do you have to take a very expensive taxi ride?

      Thank you.

Would like to spend a week in Rhône-Alpes.

      1. What would be the best time of the year to go there?
      2. Does it sound reasonable to stay the whole week in Lac du Bourget area as a base for day trips?
      3. How is public transportation? Should I rent a car?

I would be grateful for any advice.

I'm taking a road trip with my girlfriend, and am planning on proposing to her when we visit Lyon, as I was living there as a student when we first met.

Are there any particularly good places for this that anyone can recommend? My first thought was fourviere, but would happily hear more suggestions as I have not been back since 2008!

    • Travelling from Geneva to Annemasse and back

      Annemasse Jun 19, 2014 at 1:40 AM

Hi, we have made reservations in ibis budget Annemasse during our visit in September. We are not getting a clear picture of how to get to the hotel from Geneva train station. I have few queries. It would be great if anybody can guide us on these:
1.How can we reach Annemasse station (name of the station?) from Geneva train station?
2.From Annemasse station, are there tram or bus till the hotel? We are coming with parents in their 70s and having problem with long walk.
3.How much would be the total ticket fare from Geneva to Annemasse and then till the hotel?
4.After 2 days we have to catch the 9:00 am flight to India from Geneva. Are there buses which start as early as around 5:30am?
5.During our stay, one day we will be making a trip to Gru'yeres and Broc and another day to Paris. We come back after 3 days to Annemasse from where we are flying back to India.
6.If we consider the travel expenses (for 6 people) time etc. was it better to book the hotel in Geneva itself (We already made the bookings).
Waiting for a reply. Thanks in advance.
