I am looking for a romantic but "value for money" place to stay in Grenoble whilst on honeymoon in March 2014 (27th, 28th, 29th). I am not very keen on staying in an hotel and would prefer to stay in a guest house/bed and breakfast place. I am from South Africa, any help on places to stay would be greatly appreciated.
i will be going to grenoble to study for a semester. from jan to may. may i advise what i should wear and how thick my coat should be. i come from a very sunny place and i have not seen snow before. so i would like to ask for some help!:)
Hello, my wife and I intend driving from Nice at the end of January for 3 days and then on to Paris. Could I get some help in making my decisions: (apologies for the copious questions)
Is winter the fine to visit Annecy?
Are the roads safe - will soft tyres do on the rental car or do I need chains?
Do I understand correctly that the best route from Nice would be by via Geneva?
Do I need to book accommodation in advance my stay to get a 'reasonable' price?
To travel to Paris from Annecy do I need to head towards Lyon?
If the questions are too many, I am happy to do the research if I am pointed in the right direction.
Thanks in advance - Pratul
Can anyone advise the best train route from Chamonix to Paris and what is a better time to depart?

I'm looking for high-end/top of the line type of gear for about 5 days. A few places online have "performance" packages for just a bit over 100 euro (for 5 days). I wouldn't mind paying that or even a bit more for good equipment.
Any recommendations as to where to look, and also a place with a decent customer service, so that they can fix any issues that may come up, exchange gear midway, wax boards/sharpen edges if needed?
We will be arriving to Chamonix from Zurich Airport by train on December 24th. We are travelling with a Swiss Transfer rail ticket that allows us to travel all the way to Chamonix but Les Houches is extra. The train we are travelling on to Chamonix continues on to Les Houches. Is there any way to buy tickets directly from the conductor so that we do not have to get off the train and wait for the next one? I have tried to book the ticket on the SNCF website and it should cost 19.5 Euros for the whole family but there is no way to have the ticket delivered to us. There does not appear to be an option to buy online and PRINT the tickets. If I select mail delivery and enter United States I get re-directed to Rail Europe where I will be charged a total of 65 Euros which seems outrageous for the 15 minute journey. Any ideas?
Hi everyone -
I am spending ~6 weeks in Chamonix this winter, from January - mid-February 2014. I am looking to meet some people who will be getting a house/chalet. If you are looking for a roommate, please let me know!
Is there an easy route to Bourg St Maurice from either Chamonix or Courmayeur by public transport in January?
I will be travelling from the U.S. with my wife and four children to Chamonix over the Christmas Holidays. We plan on skiing for six days. Is there any advantage or discount available if we buy our lift passes in advance?
Thanks in advance

I am really confused about where to stay in Lyon for three nights
We are coming in on the TVG from CDG
And will leave from Lyon to Arles by train
I would like to find a hotel close to the pedestrian area or the old town
Budget max is $130 preferably a little lower
I tend to use the discount booking sights
My biggest confusion is I am not sure abut location in proximity to a 15- 20 min walk to the old town and sights of interest

What is there to do in terms of outdoor activities in Chamonix in November? It seems that all of the lifts and stuff are closed, but I was wondering if it's still possible to go snowshoeing.
What is the safest neighborhood in Lyon to look for a hotel? We are planning a vacation in France next year.
My wife and I (in our 60s) will spend the month of June in Lyon attending LeoLingua language school. We want to rent a furnished apartment that will be reasonably convenient to Place Bellecour. We think we need to be in the 1st or 2nd arrondisment. Do you agree? Or is the transportation system in Lyon good enough to stay a further out? What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.
I'm planning a trip from Montpellier up through the Rhone-Alpes region in November with my mom. Although we're hoping to visit Lyon, we would absolutely LOVE to spend a day in Annecy. I've been comparing shuttles and trains, but would really appreciate some advice -- so, in your opinion, what is the best way to get from Lyon to Annecy?
(PS. Bonus question: what is the city like in November? Is it a good time to visit or would we be better off elsewhere?)
What is the cheapest and easiest way to travel from London to Moutiers? I am embarking on a ski season in December and will have lots of bags, skis, boots etc... so looking for an economical option to carry all these with me - think the airlines will sting me for extra luggage and then not sure on how easy it is to transfer from Geneva...
Many thanks in advance for any help / advice!
We need to travel from Evian Les Bains to Geneva. The SNCF wensite only offers a train via Bellegarde then back to Geneva, taking over 2 hours. Is there a more direct, maybe local train or bus?I m thinking it should only take 1 hour?
I am not an experienced hiker but would like to go up into the mountains surrounding lake Annecy. What is the best way to achieve this? I am a photographer and want to capture views from the mountains over the lake.

My daughter is a visiting law student (until December) who accepted a last-minute position at the English-speaking universite and arrived with no place to stay, not speaking French, and is now swamped with work, so I am trying to assist from back home! Does anyone have a suggestion on how to find such a place or know of a friend with such a place? Connections would be a great thing right about now... Thanks for any helpful suggestions. Have tried vrbo and homeaway but most listings come without maps and/or addresses so difficult to see if they are close. Thanks for your time and expertise.

Hello, I am planning a trip with a large group of people (10+), and we are considering Avoriaz as an option. We have quite varied skill levels in the group, and we would be very grateful if you could answer some of our questions.
1. I understand that Avoriaz is part of the Port du Soleil area - does a standard ski pass allow access to all surrounding areas, or does it require and expansion?
2. Is Avoriaz well suited for snowboarding, as well as skiing? In particular, are there a lot of T-Bar lifts or narrow slopes, which are less suited for snowboarding?
3. What time of year is ideal for Avoriaz? Are there times when there is too little snow? I read that because parts of the ski site are at a low altitude, it can be dangerous to ski with little snow. Are there snow-machines active at the sites?
4. Could you recommend a good ski school, for snowboarding especially but also for ski?
5. Is there a night ski option?
Thank you in advance for your assistance,
