I am travelling from Annecy to Thonon Les Bains, is it worth visiting Chamonix on the way through? Or will it add unnecessary time to the journey?
If not i will follow part ot the Route des Grandes Alpes

I am going to Annecy from May 5-June 8. What should I expect the weather to be like? I was planning on bringing clothing for the summer but then checked the weather online and it says it will be snowing!
I'm going to stay in Grenoble for a week, is Citadines City Centre Grenoble a good pick?
We are thinking of spending a week in Grenoble this summer with 4 year old children. What kinds of things are there to do with children? perhaps playgrounds or child-friendly museums?
Are there any interesting things to do or places to visit close to Pont de Sainte-Columbe?
The reason I ask is because I believe that is where River Cruise ships dock. (I am on a Viking Ship). There is about a one-hour free time available to spend after the walking tour of the city and I wanted to make the most of it - of course without being left behind!
Is there any day tour for easy hiking?
Are there any interesting places to visit or things to do within walking distance (say 1-1.5 KM) of Quai Claude Bernard where my ship will be docked during the day?
Where can i find an option to stay surrounded by snow in the Montreux, Chamonix, area?
Ok I know this topic has been discussed plenty of times of the forum however, i couldnt find a solid answer to my question.
I will arrive to CDG airport Terminal 2 on May 1st, and want to reach Chamonix via train, so questions are:
- Can I book the train tickets once I arrive to the terminal/train station
- What is the best rail to choose for this trip... SNCF or TGV
- Is it true that there arent currently any trains going to Chamonix so the alternative is the coach/bus??
Any other tips would be appreciated :)
I'm planning a trip to Chamonix with my husband but quite confused as to do it in early May or by mid June when the lifts reopen.
I am wondering if there will be any places with snow to walk on and do snowshoeing or not. We come from Egypt and my husband hasn't seen snow ever... so it's important to give him that experience of walking on snow.
Appreciate your help :)
Me and my family are planning to spend a week in Chamonix next december (starting on DEC/21/2013).
On the DEC/28/2013 we are going to Florence, Italy. I`d like to know which is the best/easiest way to make this trip.
Train? Plane? Bus? Rental Car?

Hello, we are planning to go to Annecy in May and we don't want to rent a car.
The best hotels in my opinion are in Talloires (quiet). Is it reasonnable to book a hotel in Talloires or do we have to book a hotel in the center of Annecy?
Thank you very much for your advice
Hi
My family and I will go to Annecy on 2/4/13 to 4/4/13. We plans to stay in Youth Hostel. My question are, it is enough time to explore Annecy. How far the youth hostel from city centre. What is the best place to visit in annecy. What is the weather and tempreture during that time.
Thanks
I'm in Grenoble for a meeting early next week. Can anyone tell me what the conditions are like on the ground in the town, in Grenoble. The weather info says it's around 8 degrees in the daytime but is it more like 0 with wind chill? Are the streets clean of snow? Would you recommend winter clothes or can I get by with my suit and adding a scarf and gloves?
As part of an 18 day visit to France I will be traveling from Annecy to Nice in early May 2013 and I would like advice on the best way to travel between these two cities. By train, it would appear that I would need to be aboard the train in Annecy before 7am in order to arrive in Nice in daylight (and I do consider this important as I will be traveling alone and like to be settled in by nightfall). I would consider flying but I'm not sure what combination of transport this would require. Any advice on the most sensible way to get from Annecy to Nice would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Lyon Forum, We're looking for a restaurant that is opened on Sunday night, which serves French food. It does NOT have to be a Michelin star restaurant. Thank you for your help.

Hello, We will be driving from Annecy, France to Interlaken, Switzerland and would like to stop for a day in Chamonix. Is it possible to find a room in 1 or 2 star hotels at prices up to E80/2 people on arrival? We usually rent a car and travel without reservation in Europe and have no problem finding rooms between E40 - E80/night. I am doing my research now and I notice that all inexpensive hotels on expedia, agoda, etc are fully booked. Is Chamonix usually fully booked on the beginning of July? Thank you for your help! We plan to be in Annecy for 3 days and hope to go to Chamonix for 2 days in late September 2013.Would it be better to go by train or by bus? We hope to take the telecabins up to Arquilla du Mide for the day and wonder if we will be able to continue on the Telecabins.Panoramic MontnBlanc to Pointe Helbronner as we understand that this service operates from mid May to Mid September. Would it be possible for us to leave Chamonix by train in the morning for Paris so that we can enjoy the beautiful scenery? The SNCF site came up with only I overnight service when typed in Carmonix to Paris. In fact I had to use an earlier date in March as September train timetable is not available yet. Any comments or advice would be much appreciated.
Hi everyone, I'm planning a trip for my family for Easter break. We're 4 adults, and 1 child who is 8 years old. At the beginning the plan was to visit Disney Paris for 3 days for my little brother and then to Anncy for another 3 days and back to Paris for 4 days. But after looking online I discovered the beautiful city Chamonix and I thought it will be nice to spend time there and experience the snow for the first time in our life and to have one day skiing class (something like that) . But now I don't know how to plan it in term of which would be easier transportation and shorter distance from one place to another. The current 2 options I’m thinking about are: 1- from Dubai-> Genève-> Annecy -> Chamonix-> Disney Paris -> Paris 2- from Dubai-> landing in paris and by car to Disney Paris -> Paris -> Annecy -> Chamonix and then will have to go to Genève to go back to Dubai. The total trip is about 14 days. Thank you so very much in advance.
Any locals know of a decent band for hire at a predominantly English wedding in Annecy? Ta
I am staying very close to the Debourg stop for the metro system and need to get to the Lyon Perrache departure station to catch the TGV. I was hoping anyone could tell me the easiest way to get there and approximately how long it takes. Also do I need to get to the station early for check in like you do at the airport. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated too. Thanks!
Where is the best place in Lyon to see the New Year in? Searching the most obvious websites doesn't seem to throw up much. I thought that there would be an obvious focal point. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
We are doing a rather epic train trip round europe. We'll be doing a lot of pincincing onboard, and so a lot of the remaining planning is al about working out what to put in the picnic hamper at each of our rapid stops. Alas, super stinky cheese isnt something that goes down very well on posh TGVs, or any train really, so we'd have to eat anything like that almost at point of purchase. Any suggestions for cheese strong enough to scare off a tribe of Stilton eating englishmen would be most appreciated. Les Halles is purpose built for our requiremtns, We have 3 1/2 hours in Lyon (11:30 to 15:00) and it's walking distance from Part Dieu. If you are a Lyonnaise, either in spirit or literally, and have any recommendations for what to stick in a picnic hamper, or a particular shop in Les Halles you adore, please let me know and I'll jot it down on our blogs food pages. There will be 13 of us, so we can handle about 2.5 Kgs of cheeses, and about 2kg of meats, several of these terrines, (including one veggie) plus loads of breads and some deserts, and some fruit etc. We'll also need quite a bit of Rhone wine.... We'll be going to Limoges when we leave, in order to pick up the sleeper to Barcelona. We've got a budget of £30 a picnic per person, so pushing 500 euros not including drinks, and Lyon is worth pushing the boat out for so we could extend the budget for this stop.
Hi there, I'm considering visiting Annecy June 14th-June17th 2013, but have learned that there's an International film festival there at the same time. Does anyone happen to know if Annecy is very crowded during the annual festival and should be avoided? Thanks! Bill
Hi, I am traveling from Torino and my train reaches Lyon at 11:30 in the night. Next morning I have a train at 6:15. The gap is very small and booking a hotel doesn't seem the right thing. Earlier I thought that I can spend the night in waiting area of the station. However, I suspect that since there are rarely in night trains in France, the station might be closed after midnight. In that case I will have nowhere to go unless I am ready to shell out a decent amount for a hotel room. Does anyone has any idea as to what I can do to spend my time. Thanks
