Downhill ski at Christmas

We're a family of 3 looking for something different for Christmas time. Can anyone recommend the skiing in Icelend ? We're Beginner/Intermediates and have heard that this could be the place to go for something different. Also if there are any resorts, how far away from Reykjavik are they and would anyone have any recommendations as to where to stay ? We traditionally rent a house, but we normally ski in the USA.
