Is there any hotels or accommodation in KEM or LOUKHI ? Please tell me
Is there any good buses / trains which go regularly between these cities? Night bus would be awesome!
I want to come in July. I need to be at 16:30 at Petrozavodsk, since I will take a bus to Ladva at 16:30.
I recently lost my sister's black and green beaded necklace that she purchased on Kizhi Island. Is there somewhere in the states I could purchase another one?
I'll be in Petrozavodsk in July. Can anybody suggest what i should have a look at or where to go. I've seen online about Kizhi. I understand that there is a boat trip from the waterfront.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Can anybody advise what there is to do in Sortavala ?
I'm aware of boat trips to Valaam, but what else is there to do or see ????
can anybody tell me the price of the hydrofoil from Sortavala to Valaam ?
How long is the journey and do i need to book it in advance ?
I am visiting Sortavala in July this year and hopefully staying with a friend.
On my visa application i must state where i am staying.
Once in Sortavala where should i go to register my visit?
If i stay at a hotel they normally do this for me so this is something i have not had to do before.
Alternatively i could stay in a hotel for 1 or 2 nights and get registered and then stay with my friends ?
Can anyone give me any inofrmation on this city in terms of living conditions??
Cost of living
Will be going to work there in September

I will be arriving in Petro on the 3rd of September all the way from Manchester in England, tho I am originally from Spain! Anyway, I am going to be living there for 4 months! as part of an exchange programme with the university of Petrozavodsk and I do need advice about the city. I do not know yet where I am going to be living, but it is going to be with a Karelian family! I am exited and scared at the same time. First time in Russia, as well. My intentions are not to speak any word of English nor Spanish hehehe xD and to make the most out of my experience there before moving for 6 more months to Yaroslavl. Thanks a lot! Miz

Are there direct trains or buses from Petrozavodsk to Helsinki? If so, about how long is the trip?
Am planning to stop off a Petrozavodsk, just about 2 days, I wondered if any tour company organises sailing trips (sail boat rather than power) on the lake? I plan to be there later this month (August)?
Also any recommendation for a economical (but reasonable) hotel / hostel would be appreciated.
Regards from London,
Is there any way to travel between Petrozavodsk and Cherepovec? I haven't found any direct train, and I can't find bus companies.
Thank you very much!
Last month while on a Russian waterways cruise we stopped at Kizhi Island. There was an artist, an elderly man, at work making a pencil sketch of the 1876 Oshenev farmhouse with the wooden Transfiguration Cathedral behind it. He had some of his pictures laid out for sale. I didn't buy one but my friend did. Does anyone know this man's name? We would like to contact him if possible.
I am wondering if there is anywhere I would be able to find a online map of city streets with streets labeled (in english is possible) in the city of Petrozavodsk.
I'm going to be in petro from september to december. Can anybody give me any advice as to what clothes to bring for those months? Will the temperature change significantly between september and december? What kind of boots are best?
I would be grateful if anyone can advise me.
I wish to travel to the Sortovala area (my mother was evacuated from this region in 1940 & 1944 - Laskela & Harlu to Finland).
I will be travelling from the UK (Manchester) & would like to see some other parts of Russia - maybe St Petersburg.
What would be the best way to do this? Travel from Helsinki to St Petersberg to Sortovala?
or from Estonia? or Russia (need to take cheap flight)
Best method of transport? Train? Hire a car?
Best way to find accommodfation?
Best time of year to travel?
How to keep it cheap?
Things to see?
How safe is it?
Any advice on visas/ money?
I would be grateful for any help as I have only just began to explore this idea & am finding it difficult to find information.
