How much time for a day trip?

by txcatlover Online Now Feb 23, 2011 at 12:42 PM

If coming to Reims as a day trip from Paris, should arriving around 10:00 a.m and departing at 5:00 p.m. be enought time to see the cathedral, at least one champagne tour and walking around town a bit?

That should be fine. You might take the little tourist train tour. It's very short and gets you oriented quickly. Then you can walk to whatever interests you. The cathedral is spectacular. Don't miss the beautiful Chagall stained glass windows in the back. I hope you have a sunny day. The Palace de Tau is right next door to the cathedral and is a small but interesting museum. If you're interested in art, there is a Beaux Arts museum near the Cathedral. Check for restaurants at Place Drouet d'Erlon, an easy walk from the cathedral. There are a few more cafes near the Roman Forum although the people watching isn't nearly as good there. I love to watch people and Place Drouet d'Erlon is definitely the place to watch them. We ate at the Hotel Bristol and it is central and the food is very good. If you end up with a bit of extra time, there are enclosed shopping arcades also not far from the Cathedral. Reims is very walkable. Enjoy your day.

re time available: I assume you are arriving by TGV . Although I have never made the trip by train, I understand you should ensure that the TGV is stopping at the station near the city centre. Not all TGV service stop there. Time will be wasted making the connection to the city if one gets a train to the Champagne-Ardenne Station which is out of town. happy trails de p.
