    • Help from Ventimiglia to Oppido, Reggio Calabria

      Calabria May 18, 2013 at 10:26 AM

Hello. I have family in Ventiimiglia and family in Oppido Mamertina. I want to fly into Nice, France late June, to see my family in Ventimiglia. Then I want to go to from there to Reggio first week of July for la festa in Oppido Mamertina.

I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to get from Ventimiglia to Reggio. Flights are really expensive. I was thinking train but will probably lose an entire day and not sure if that will cost any less.

      Any advice? Thanks in advance!

by JohnnyBiscotti Online Now Jan 7, 2012 at 4:05 PM

We will be traveling to Italy for a little over two months from May to July. We arrive in Rome and have about a week to travel the southern area before taking the ferry to Sicily. We have been to the Amalfi coast and Sorrento area a few times but never to Calabria. We are looking for any suggestions on where to stay and visit? Is it to much to drive from Rome to Calabria in one day, should we stop for a day or two in Sorrento (one of our favorite places)? How about in Sicily…we are planning to stay there about three weeks. We will have a car for our entire stay and want to take the ferry to and from Sicily. When we leave Sicily we are going to take the ferry to Genoa as we rented a flat in Portofino for 2 weeks and then a flat in Senia for three weeks where we are invited to see the Palio before returning home.

Please can anyone help with 1. the archaeological museum - is it open on Saturdays and how do we get there from Reggio di Calabria train station 2. places to eat either in Reggio di Calabria or ideally Villa San Giovanni as we are catching a train from there late in the evening. (Anywhere with any vegetarian dishes or pizzas would be great) Grazie! Lucy

Travel time would be in winter...betweeen November and February (excluding Christmas period). Also if there is a particular time when it might be better to go. Thanks!

by sterne84 Online Now Jun 9, 2010 at 9:20 AM

Grazie mille :))

Palermo to Reggio Di Calabria and away!

by rici3333 Online Now Apr 27, 2008 at 10:13 PM

WE are in Palermo in May. We thought we would go up to Reggio Di Calabria from there; hire a car and drive North. 2 questions. 1.Best way to get from Palermo to Reggio Di Calabria (safely..with luggage)(IE: Is there a Ferry or train??) 2. Any reccomendations on good place to hire car in Reggio Di Calabria - preferably not in the middle of town as we will be a little nervous driving in Italy at first (we are from Australia)? We want to take the hire car right up and leave at a town somewhere near Florence in a few days / 1 week after a nice back roads drive! Many thanks for any reccomendations you may have.

Question re Reggio di Calabria and Scilla

by LuchiaFeman Online Now Jun 8, 2006 at 11:00 AM

Hi Everybody, I'm dstined for Italian language school (3 months) in Reggio and am hearing that I may not want to spend as much time there as I had originally thought. I understand Scilla is nearby and perhaps its possible to commute. I'm on scholarship so am committed to the general area. Any ideas re the buses, perhaps renting cars. I understand the bus is approx. a 20 min. ride, but am having trouble locating an address for the school which is the Dante Alighieri School in Reggio. Anybody got any ideas? In addition to the wonderful opportunity for extended study, I want to enjoy the scenery, cultural experience and most of all the ancient buidings of Southern Italy. I am open to any suggestions. THanks to you all and I wish you a great day! Luchia
