    • How to get to this Address

      Bùzios May 6, 2013 at 4:43 AM

I am leaving Buzios tommorrow morning. Do not have an clear idea on how to get to this apartment in the area of Rio or Copacabana: The owner or manager wrote the following information: Se você chegar pelos Aeroportos Santos Dumont ou Galeão, pode pegar o ônibus "FRESCÃO" que o deixará a 50 metros do apto e da sede da Agência, onde retirará as chaves.
I am in Buzios right now. I am planning to take a taxi that will take to bus station, Auto Viacao 1001 from here to the airport at Rio de Janeiro. According to the directions given to me by the owner do I take the Frescao to my final destination? Will the Frescao take my two pieces of luggage? Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thank You

    • Hotels in Rio March 2014

Rio de Janeiro Apr 20, 2013 at 6:46 AM

I'm trying to book a three or four star beachfront hotel on 2 March, 2014 for 9 nights without much success. I appreciate that the beginning of my holiday coincides with the end of the carnival, but only backpackers hostels or top end hotels are available. Is it possible that hotel rooms that far ahead haven't gone on sale yet, or am I being naive and the hotels are truly sold out? I have booked one room in the Barra beach area which has a full cancellation policy, but it's a bit further out that I would have liked and a bit over budget: it's my 'Plan B' and I am hoping to cancel it and get a nearer, cheaper room nearer the time. Is this realistic?

    • How to get to Ilha Grande, recommendations on how long to stay and where to go

      Brazil Apr 28, 2013 at 5:12 AM

How do you get to Ilha Grande, I've googled it and i can't find any references to how you get to the island?!?! Any recommendations on how long to stay and where to go on there.

People say to book if in season and not if out of season as you can get fantastic deals. I'm going in September, is that in season or out??

From research I see that people recommend Lopez Mendez beach, Abraoo Cove, Dois Rios, Dos Merlos, Saco de cue, blue lagoon, and Green Lagoon. Obviously theres a ton of places here, how plausible is it to all of them? and how do you get around the island, it looks massive, can you walk to all these places??

Cheers again for all the help in advance!

Why use a travel agent to buy your ticket?

      Brazil May 7, 2013 at 1:28 AM

Bought two tickets to fly to Brazil from Flight Centre in London.
Don't usually buy from travel agents as you pay commission on sales, preferring to buy online, but we did on this occasion due to various connecting flights.
On transit we were stopped from boarding our flight to Brazil. My husband is British but me being Australian needed a visa. Dream holiday costing £2500, cancelled!
Contacted our travel agent, only to be asked 'what passport do you have?' Now I appreciate it is our responsibility to ensure we have appropriate documentation for travel, but is it too much to expect that an agent gives you basic information regarding your flight before you buy such a costly holiday? Isn't that what you are paying commission for?
The best bit....after raising our concerns with Flight Centre customer services, we received a letter negating any responsibility on their part (no surprises there) and then going on to say: sorry your trip to Mexico hadn't worked out???
Flight Centre travel agents, since when is Brazil part of Mexico. didn't you even bother reading our email?

I don't understand why anyone should buy tickets through a travel agent, why not just buy them online and do your own research??

I've been discussing a possible job in the Boa Viagem area of Recife. I've heard that Boa Viagem is one of the nicest areas of the city and that the city in general is very close to the ocean. One thing I'm concerned about is transportation. How feasible is it to live in Boa Viagem ithout a car? In other words, how expensive are taxis? And how extensive is the bus service? I imagine that during the week I'll be staying in Boa Viagem but on the weekends I'll want to do some exploring. Is there train service to other cities? I've been living in Taiwan the past year and the main mode of transportation is 125 cc scooters. Would something like this be practical in Brazil? Thanks very much for any help. Tom

      Information for exchange members?

by Iowa2 Online Now Sep 23, 2006 at 5:17 AM

Our Rotary district has entered into an exchage with the Brazilian district around around Recife. This will take place about a year from now and members have yet to be selected. There is no doubt that they will receive the best of attention from their Rotary hosts. I was just wondering if there might be something that they should see or do not on the normal agenda to experience the local culture, economy, etc. I have discovered here that some of the best information comes from people that have only visited there. Having lived in a place all their lives, the locals don't always appreciate it.
