Hi folks, what are your reccomendations as to the best beaches around the Recife area? I'm particularly interested in getting on top of a great big sand dune and sliding all the way down on one of those snowboard things. Also-what do backpackers usually go for re. accomodation? Thanks in advance, John
you have to go a little further north than recife to catch the big sand dunes. natal has some of them and it's only a few hours by bus from recife. jericoacoara near fortaleza is a real backpacker haunt with giant sand dunes. there is a youth hostel in recife one block from the beach in boa viagem. that is the main hangout foor backpackers there.

Prainha has some good dunes as well... Fleixeiras, Cumbuco, Praia das Fontes... everywhere! =) Btw, be careful when you are in Recife!
