    • Concerns about moving to UAE

      Dubai May 18, 2015 at 10:09 PM

I am considering applying for jobs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I have been to UAE on holiday before but living in another country is a different experience. I am a white female and plan to travel to the UAE without my husband for the first 3 months.

      1. How can I ensure my safety when I get there?

      2. I have heard horror stories about people being promised amazing jobs and then they arrive and either things are a nightmare immediately or things get bad once they take your passport & visa from you. What can I do to ensure that doesn't happen? I am applying for executive positions in corporate organizations.

      3. When looking for accommodation, what are the best resources? What areas in Dubai and Abu Dhabi should I avoid living in?

      4. I know that the UAE has many venomous spiders and snakes. I know there are sea snakes in the water and warnings about snakes on the beaches, but how common is the occurrence of seeing a snake in day to day life in the city and most importantly in your home?

      Thanks,
      M

    • 8 Hour Layover in Dubai Airport Terminal 2??

      Dubai May 2, 2015 at 8:29 PM

      Hey Guys,
I was hoping for a reality check on Terminal 2. My initial flight into Dubai Airport, I immediately got put on a shuttle from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 for my Delta connection. This time i've got a 8 Hour layover in Dubai for by 4am flight to Kabul. My question is should I spend the night in Terminal 1, and got to Terminal 2 around 2am, or should I go immediately over there? I've heard that terminal 2 is the black sheep of Dubai Airport. Poor amenities, and very difficult to transfer over to. How difficult is it going to be to find a shuttle or even taxi and 2am?

      Thanks!

BTW: I've got one check-in bag, but i was told by Delta that it would transfer all the way to Kabul.

Abu Dhabi Apr 30, 2015 at 10:26 AM

I will be visiting Abu Dhabi for the first time staying 1 week, playing some golf and getting around to see some places as well as go to Dubai for the day and wanted to make sure I was prepared upon arriving appropriate attire that is exceptionable to wear considering I look like a drenched wash cloth in hot weather.
Golfing attire I hope I am capable to wear shorts and nice button up. Anyone have recommendations.

      GETTING AROUND - HELP!

Abu Dhabi Apr 29, 2015 at 2:17 PM

      Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I are going to Abu Dhabi for a day. We want to visit the main attractions but in a low budget way, since we are backpackers. So, how people usually get around Abu Dhabi?
What is it best: get a taxi (or even public transportation.. still dont know if it has it) or get a one day tour?

      Thanks!

Does anyone have any recommendations were to find something's that's fresh, like fruits or a good salad in the airport without the prices being through the roof?

And on a side note, does anyone know were to find Wifi in the airport? That's always a trouble for me too :)

      Mobile internet for visitors?

Ras Al Khaimah Aug 29, 2013 at 6:46 PM

I am planning a visit to the Al Hamra area in November, and my accommodation will not provide internet access. Are there reasonable short-term mobile broadband options for visitors? I have an unlocked quad-band GSM phone that takes a micro SIM card, and I am hoping to be able to use it as a mobile hotspot for my laptop and my partner's phone. Will any of the local providers be able to accommodate me, and if so, how much might I expect to pay?

    • Bikini ban

Ras Al Khaimah May 31, 2013 at 2:14 PM

I recently read an online article stating that the government of RAK introduced a new law saying that bikinis on public beaches are banned. How far is that true and are there any private beached where tourists can go and swim and sunbath? Since I already booked my holidays in RAK for july, I would like to know where I could still go and enjoy the beach? And would a one piece swimsuit on a public beach be fine?

      Thank you!

      Double Tree Hilton

Ras Al Khaimah Nov 20, 2012 at 11:42 AM

      Hi all,

we will be heading to the Double Tree Hilton Hotel in January for 1 week (and afterwards to Dubai for 3 nights). We have booked breakfeast only. And here are my questions (some might follow...) which I hope some of you can answer:

What about the extra costs there? I am asking for the hotel and both the city. Is it possible to book half pension on the spot, would that be recommended or are there good possibilities to eat out in the town (two females)? Are there shops nearby to by mineral water?

Do you have any suggestions for trips? What to sea nearby?

Many thanks for your reply in advance!

      Nic

Also we have not been to this place before and wondered what it is like.
We like to relax with maybe the odd day out on an excursion etc.
Please tell me a little more about it if you have been.

Need some advice before going to RAK

Ras Al Khaimah Aug 4, 2008 at 2:07 AM

Hi, I have booked to go to RAK on 8th Sept till 16th Sept which I am awae of now is Ramadam (was not told by travel agent). This is not a big problem for me as I dont drink and wanted a quiet relaxing holiday anyway.

A few things I wanted to query were dress code both for me and my partner in shopping areas, on excursions, around hotel and dining areas and beach.
Also tipping, is this expected or not approved of.
We dont wish to offend people and from another forum I dont get any clear answers

Ras Al Khaimah Oct 12, 2007 at 9:57 AM

We are hoping to go very shortly to the Beach resort and Spa, however, I have heard that they are building more villas at present. Has anyone been recently and can they tell me if this is further round the bay and if it will be really noisy and dusty where the finished villas and beach club are. I understand that the finished villas are superb but the holiday will be spoilt if if is exceptionally noisy
      Thanks
