Will be bringing a motor coach tour of senior citizens to RC around the first of June. Presently planning about 3 hours at Rushmore, 3 hours at Custer State Park and 2 hours at Crazy Horse.Since I see a lot of comments that an esrly morning or late afternoon visit to Custer SP is best, could some one give me an efficient route (includind the route through Custer SP) to visit all three starting with Custer SP. Some back tracking would be OK. We will be coming from Cheyenne Blvd in RC and continuing to Deadwood.Any help with this question or any other info that would be helpful would be appreciated.
If I am understanding you correctly you want to go from Rushmore, down the Needle's Highway (in a motor home), around Custer State Park and back up to Crazy Horse Monument, and then Deadwood in one day? You are pushing it on that one. Most of the roads through the Black Hills are windy and slow. This is compounded going down the Needle's Highway, where there are many areas where the turns are marked at 10mph and then in a motor home, you might be pushing it at that speed. And so you know, getting a motor home thought the Needle's highway is tough! There are areas where it is one lane road through rock or over bridges. They do take buses through there, but they have to back up at a certain point in order to gt them around some of the corners. But it is one of the most absolutely breath taking drives you will ever make (I want to do it on motorcycle sooooo bad!) How much time are you going to have in the Black Hills? I have been there several times and could better give you a suggested schedule if I knew how much time you were looking at.

I think your times alotted at each place (except Mt Rushmore) are way to much.

Thanks for the info. One more question - will be looking for a place for a quick lunch. Our scheduling would be enhanced if we could get a lunch at Mt Rushmore. I understand that the prices will probably be higher than outside the park. Any ideas on general price ranges. Thanks again.

The only place I highly recommend is half way between RC and Sturgis and is the Elk Creek Tavern. Probably, the best steak I have ever had in my life. We did the Sturgis motorcyle ride twice and stopped there both times it was awesome.

They do have a place to eat up at Mt. Rushmore. It is nothing extravagant, on the high side, but not outrageous.
