Leaving luggage whilst on Routeburn

We're going to be staying in Queenstown the night before going on the Routeburn and a couple of days in Milford Sound. We'll need to leave our non-trekking luggage somewhere for those days. Any ideas? We're not conviced about paying for a hire car for the whole time and leaving it in there. Does anyone know of hotels that will keep your luggage whilst you are away?
