Winter carnaval snow carvings

by mmyerspa Online Now Dec 6, 2009 at 4:35 AM

It's my understanding that the snow carvings are completed during the carnival. I'd like to see the artists in action, but also see the completed work. Can someone tell me when the carvings are usually completed?

Hi! Here's the schedule for 2010 - For the Canadian component, it starts on Friday, Jan. 30. They work all through the day and night on Saturday and prizes are awarded on Sunday, Feb. 1. Then on Tuesday, Feb. 3 it's the beginning of the International component. You can see the artists in action during that week, then on Saturday, Feb. 7 it's the "sculpt the night away" event - they work all through the night to complete their sculptures. Prizes are awarded on Feb. 8, and the sculptures are kept up until the end of Carnaval on Feb. 15. Hope this helps!

This is very helpful, as I'm trying to determine if I should attend the first weekend or the secon weekend. I noticed the schedule on the website lists snow carving for midnight on the first weekend. Do you know what that is about?

Yes, it's a bit confusing the way it's listed but what they mean is that the "Sculpt the night away" event officially begins at midnight, but the artists will actually be working on their sculptures all day on Saturday as well. Is that a bit clearer?
