Surfing in september

by TessieB Online Now Jul 23, 2012 at 12:20 PM

Me and my boyfriend are planning a trip to Malaysia from mid september to the beginning of October. We are thinking about visiting Pulau Tioman as it sound amazing. He loves to surf, but it sounds like most people come to surf in the monsoon at the end of October and November. Would it be possible to surf from Juara in late September? I'd love to hear if anyone has seen people doing it at this time of year or tried themselves.

Tessie, whilst you may get freak waves on Tioman throughout the year, the surf tends to be most consistent from November till March. In fact, the Northeast-driven swell is so steady this season, that Kampung Juara becomes a veritable hang-ten hot-spot for surfers from far and wide. I know the villagers even offer courses for newbies, so if you can postpone your trip till then, you're sure to hear "Surf's up"!
