I am from Bangkok,Thailand. I plan to go to the Sipidan in a few days. Presently,I am not a scuba diver for I have stopped diving for more than 10 years, but I still enjoy snorkelling or skin diving. Is it possible to snorkel only at Sipidan and Mabul and Kapalai ? Can one be left on Sipidan island during daytime to swim and snorkel and be picked up by a dive boat in the afternoon?
as far as I know you can't go to Sipadan on your own, beside there is a fee to be paid. You should organize with a dive center or get on your own the permission at police station (pay the fee) and go there with a private boat with a pilot not on your own. This is what I found on net. I heard also about 'Uncle Chang' in Semporna, he has a dive center quite cheap, he can manage to go to Sipadan from there by boat and/or could find an accomodation at Mabul backpaker lodge. The resorts on Sipadan are closed and the other will cost$$$$ a lot. I'm going there next August, could you write a your feed-back when you've been there? cheers :-)
