      Getting around (staying at Berjaya)

      Pulau Langkawi 5 hours ago

Hi VTers - it's been a while since I've visited the forums, but I know I can count on the expertise here! I'm staying at the Berjaya Langkawi with my other half for the last week in September (should be a quiet time in Langkawi, I think?). Now, while we were sold on the chalet concept, we really aren't big resort people and want to be able to explore the island and eat out independently. My understanding is that the Berjaya is fairly cut off (except for the Oriental Village which doesn't appeal), so we're wondering how would be best to get out and about.

Is cycling feasible, or is this only suitable for short journeys? Would you recommend car hire? My partner owns a scooter in Italy, but I'm not sure how safe renting one of these is in Malaysia? The last one we rented abroad (Uruguay) came with one-size-fits-all helmets which wouldn't have done very much in a crash.

      Many thanks in advance!

    • 12-day trekking Borneo in july: Sarawak/Kalimantan/Sabah:who joins me?

      Borneo Apr 30, 2013 at 10:11 AM

      Hi all,
I'm doing a trekking this summer on Borneo: starting from Bakalalan, crossing the border to Kalimantan and ending in Sabah (Long Pasia).

It will start in the last week of july and end in the first week of august.

It will be great expedition: lots of rainforest, wildlife (hopefully) and of course a guide etc. It won't be an easy trekking, but what's wrong with a challenge?

If someone is interested, let me know!

      Thanks a lot,
      Max (NL)

      Itinerary for approx 10 days

      Borneo May 2, 2013 at 2:34 AM

Could anyone suggest an itinerary for Borneo which would include a visit to the orangutangs, tree top canopy walk, visit to KK National Park and POSSIBLY to climb it (not certain about that yet in our limited time frame). Also we have the possibility of going to Borneo straight from Bangkok or from somewhere in Indonesia. Could you recommend which would be the better & cheaper option? Thank you!

Driver's License for small scooters (under 50cc)

      Malaysia May 19, 2013 at 10:08 PM

I have a follow up to an earlier question issue, re.motorbike licensing in Malaysia. Does anyone know what Malaysia rules are concerning small electric bikes? Here on the west coast of Canada and in Washington State (USA), there is no extra licensing needed for small (49 cc or less) electric bikes. You can use your regular (auto) driver's license: Malaysia? Thanks

      motorcycle license

      Malaysia May 11, 2013 at 10:43 PM

I (Canadian) will be in Malaysia this summer. Driving a car there last time was a challenge (left side driving didn't work for me). What are the steps to getting a motorcycle license there? (I think I can handle left side driving with motorcycle..and I will be in a small town. I just have the regular auto license here in Canada, but could get a motorcycle license here, if it made obtaining a motorcycle license in Malaysia easier. Anyway, looking for advice, ideas. Thanks

    • searching for the sun, need a beach

Kota Kinabalu May 13, 2013 at 10:16 AM

I'm currently in Kota Kinabalu, I came here for some island/beach action. Its raining and forecast to carry on for a while didnt check. I'm approaching the end of my trip and I just want to lounge around on beaches and party in the evenings. I've stayed in mostly Thailand and never touched the north like Cambodia.
I have to fly back on the 23rd of May at the latest, I have no flight booked, I ideally want to fly back to London from Bangkok or Singapore.
Where are the awesome beaches and good night life?
      What you guys reckon ?

    • Departure times for boats from Merang- Pulau Lang Tengah

by dikkekoe Online Now Feb 3, 2008 at 11:39 AM

So after a mistake I made (I thought Penang is only 3 hours from Kuala Terengganu and we could take a bus ) which caused me purchase 2 extra air tickets and cut short our time in Penang, I'm now worried I made yet another mistake:/ We're planning to stay at D'Coconut Lagoon. What time will the boat depart from Merang to the island? Is there more than one boat? I read online that each resort only has one boat trip per day and I don't want to miss the boat! Thanks
