Bringing own food from Singapore (by ferry) for BBQ

by euli Online Now Apr 9, 2012 at 11:41 PM

Does anyone know if it is possible to bring one's own food from Singapore to Bintan for the BBQ? We will be staying in a villa that has a BBQ pit. I thought of bringing sausages, wings, steak, in an ice-box on the ferry. Will I be able to get past customs?

As long as you don't bring durian to the boat, you won't have problem with other food. Durian is not allowed on the boat between SG and Pulau Bintan.

Thanks! Would it be too obvious if I lug the whole ice-box or do I have to sneak it in in a freezer bag in my luggage?

Pak Murat is totally correct. Durian would be the only food I can think of that would be disallowed. An ice box should be no problem, and safer for your food’s preservation as well. Plenty of Singaporeans and Indonesians make that ferry crossing every day. What I’ve always noted is just how much food goes back and forth. So, when is this wonderful sounding BBQ anyway! LOL

Thanks for the heads up on Durian...most of us aren't really big fans of it. But it's great to hear we can have the icebox. The kids will be thrilled! :D Thanks again!

My Balinese wife (like most Balinese) LOVES durian. I've tried it more than once, but I still find it to be one of the absolutely most disgusting things to pass my lips. One can surely have an awesome BBQ without it, IMHO. LOL
