I already have reservations for another hotel but I'm considering El Convento Hotel in Old San Juan. Does anybody know whether it charges extra fees for a 3rd and 4th person per room? I'm trying to avoid any surprises so I went to their web site but the total cost displayed is the same for 2, 3 or 4 persons. So I'm wondering if these are hidden fees that will pop up at check in and throw my budget off. Any info. will be greatly appreciate.
I want to stay on the beach somewhere close to San juan. Is there anywhere that isnt completely tourist on the beach but close to the city to be able to explore, would be great to also know any suggestions on places to stay or rent for a little as possible andy other suggestions are welcome, thank you!!
I will be renting a car in San Juan and I was wondering if I can use my own auto insurance from California or is it better to use the rental company's insurance? Does anybody know if it's acceptable to bring quenepas (fruit) back home to the US? If so, what methods are available? Where's the best location(s) to find them?
Hi all, the price for flights and hotel that resortvacation to go offer is really cheap as compared to purchasing the flight and hotel separately. I am wondering if this is a scam. had anyone booked with them before to puerto rico? Thank you
Two travel questions, would it be worthwhile to rent a car for a day to drive around the island? Also, what would be the best way to get from Old San Juan to El Junque? (inexpensive) Thanks!
Just got in today, unexpected solo trip, looking for a good place to chill for a drink or a.m. coffee - any suggestions? (pref not tourist locale)
We will be in Puerto Rico for one night in late September before heading down to the Island of Dominica. Has anyone done a Bio Bay Tour about 20 miles from San Juan? I'm going back and forth wondering if it is worth the time and effort. We will be there on a night with a sliver of a moon which is suppose to be one of the better nights of the year to do the trip.
We're looking for suggestions for a first time visit to Puerto Rico. We like beach front, laid back kind of places where we can eat like a local. We don't want an all inclusive or high rise. We have no idea where to even start looking. What are your suggestions for the best beach to hang out on in late October? Diving, snorkeling, and just plain relaxing is on our list. Thanks in advance for your help.
I've been doing a little research, but obviously wanted to get some opinions here on VT. Here is my question: We are scheduled to arrive on a flight from Chicago to San Juan at approximately 2:20 p.m. We will be staying at the San Juan Marriott Resort located about 4.3 miles away at 1309 Ashford Ave. It looks like I could either take a taxi for about20 or possibly hop on a bus for1.50 pp. Has anybody taken a bus from the airport to a hotel? If so any suggestions (where do I catch it, which bus line, etc)? From my research I can't find a lot of info on the bus, but since I like to save and spend money for more important things other then a quick ride to a hotel I thought I would look into this option.
Can any one recommend a nice hotel that is in a good location in or near San Juan? Which hotels did you have the best experience at?

Iām going on vacation to Puerto Rico for the first time in September with my family and I have a few questions in preparation for this trip. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Which cities are closest to the most popular attractions on the island? And in your opinion, what are the must-see attractions. Any recommendations on good hotels on the beach, and best beaches to swim? Are hurricanes a risk during this month? Thanks, Dora California, US
Planning a trip with the family this fall. Little ones will want to swim. Can anyone tell me what the water temps would be from say late Nov to end of year? Is it still in upper 70s? 80-ish? Or are we talking mid to lower 70's that time of year? We'd be staying in San Juan and may do some day trips out to Luquillo Beach area if that makes a difference. Then will spend a few days in either Culebra or Vieques. Not sure if the temps vary mainland to island beaches much? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Brendan Charlotte USA
Has anyone here snorkeled in the Rincon area? We'll be staying there for a few days and wanted to do some snorkeling. Is it worth doing a snorkel tour to Desecho island? Or if you have recommendations for good snorkeling in the rincon area, it would be appreciated
Now I need taxi advice! Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for taxis from the airport to the port where the cruise ships leave from? I'm hearing something like55 which sounds ridiculous! Can anyone confirm or deny? Thanks so much! -Joann
I'm meeting friends for a cruise that leaves from San Juan. They're flying in from Tampa and will be arriving at 10am-ish. The plan is to spend 1 day seeing San Juan before embarking. Coming from Boston my only alternative is to arrive at 1pm or taking a red-eye the night before and arriving at 5am. Is anyone familiar enough with the San Juan airport to know if any restaurants (to caffein up!) will be open? I also wonder what the chances are of getting a cab there, at that time of the morning, will be? I don't know if going to our hotel would be worth my while however as it will probably be WAY to early to check in. Thanks, Joann
I'm traveling puerto rico for 24 days (June 21-July14). I would like to get from San Juan to Rincon. Any CHEAP ways? (bus?) Also, if anyone is going too let's become friends and hook up! :-) (I'm an advanced diver and 21)
can someone suggest a nice place for two friends in their 50s to vacation in PR in July?
We're going to Puerto Rico in June. We're flying into San Juan and staying for a few days and then plan to go to Culebra. Is it easy to rent a car on Culebra? Do we need advanced reservations? After Culebra, we want to drive around the rest of the main island. After taking the ferry back to Fajardo, does anyone know if it's easy or possible to rent a car near the Fajardo ferry terminal? Is it then possible to return the car back in San Juan? Or is it better to go back to San Juan and then rent from there and return on our way back to the airport at departure?
Hi there, we are planning to visit Culebra, but cannot find any infos about transportation. We are planning to get there by plane from Cieba Airport, do I need to book the tickets? How much it can cost, we are 2 adults and two kids, thanks
We are booked for a cruise out of San Juan this September. We will be flying in the day before and were wondering if anyone can advise us on a hotel for the night that is close to the port. We will probably be tired so are not interested in doing a lot of sightseeing on that night, but would like a hotel that has nice surroundings where we can relax for the night, maybe walk a little or find a place to just sit and have a drink and unwind.
I just booked a flight for a week in Puerto Rico for me and my wife the second week of April. I want to make this a great vacation. The tentative plan is to rent a car and explore the island for a few days and then stay in San Juan (without the car) for the last few days. Questions: 1. How long should we stay in San Juan? 2. Any recommendations on things to do, especially for the time we'll have a car? The only one I'm sure of is visiting El Yunque. 3. Any specific restaurant recommendations? We both love Latin food.
Does anyone have an address for this restaurant? Is it located in the Isla Verde area?
are there any good spots for the older single crowd, going to celebrate my 49bday single AA male.
Hello, looking to travel to Puerto next year with some friends. We are looking to have fun, party, eat, relax and shop. Wondering which part of Puerto Rico is best for all of this, we are looking to travel in Mid-October. We are not sure where to stay, but to be near the places with the best for nightlife possible.
We are in Puerto Rico post cruise for 3 nights 7-10 March 2011. We are deliberating whether to go to Ponce of Mardi Gras (8th) or stay in San Juan. Any advice please? Thanks Sue
I was looking at three different hotels. Reading reviews, good and bad about all. Was wondering which one was the best out of La Concha, El San Juan, or SAn Juan Water and Beach hotel. Reading that La Concha's beach is gone. That El San Juan hotel rooms are dirty but has great pool and Beach. Also what area is the best for bar and restaurants in walking distance.
We are visiting during the Holy Week 2011. I know Good Friday is a major holiday in PR and that many things will be closed. However, the forts will be open. Does anyone know if the free OSJ trolley will be running and if any restaurants (even if they are chain/touristy) will be open? We are staying out East and this is the best day for our OSJ day as they're are fewer cruise ships in port. TIA!
I'm going to try and get away on my own sometime in January for three or four nights in San Juan. I don't need anything fancy, a moderately priced place would do fine. A friend (also a single Baby Boomer) recommended the Marriott downtown because it's close to the action, e.g. the Ritz as well as El San Juan Resort & Casino. Would appreciate any recommendations on alternatives. Also, are there sites I should look at to find good package deals?
My wife and I visited San Juan a couple of weeks ago. We stayed in San Juan on the beach, but really loved the sites and food in Old San Juan. We want to return with our two kids (13 and 10) and they will definitely want to stay on the beach, but we would still like to be within walking distance of Old San Juan so that we can access the sites and restaurants. Are there any locations that meets this description?
