My boyfriend and I are headed out to San Juan Dec. 11 2013. We're only there for a wk. but are on a tight budget. Any recomendations on where to stay? Also is it worth it to rent a car and drive to the rainforest vs. doing a tour?
What are some of the best dive shops/locations in Puerto Rico?
Hello! My husband and I rented a house and a car in Rincon. We are excited about driving around, exploring, hiking, taking a few paddle boarding or surf lessons, and going out to eat. Does anybody have any recommendations? We really like authentic food and off the beaten path exploring.
Will be arriving at the airport in SJU at 7:00 am. Any advice on which hotel to get (around $90 or less) that is close to beach and walking distance to old San Juan? DO hotels provide shuttle services?
If not, and I arrive at 7 am, how to get cheaply to San Juan (bus/taxi) and what should I do until it is check in time? I know most hotels would let you leave your bag ( I have a small backpack) until a room is available. Meanwile, what can I do as far as walk and look for things.
Finally, any suggestions on what to do in 4 days?
Thanks in advance.
Is it better to book an excursion from the boat or are there people off the boat you can book tours with???

Are there any shuttles from San Jan to Humacao? It is not in our budget to rent a car and once we are at our rental we do not plan to leave except by walking until we go back to San Juan to fly out.
We will be arriving in San Juan approximately 7 am on Nov. 16th and don't have a flight out until 4:30 pm. Is there luggage storage anywhere

My wife and I are going to move from the mainland to a beach/island community somewhere very soon and need as much input as all you are willing to give.
I want to preface my request for thoughts, opinions and advise by sharing that I lived on STT for a year spending a lot of time in the BVI as a first mate on a 75' charter cat named Serendy back in 89-90 and loved every minute of it and loved just about everyone I met.
I lived on and owned a resort in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye Belize for over 2 yrs. and like wise loved every minute of it. This was 1998 - late 2000.
I lived on Sint Maarten for almost a year and loved it as well.
We have traveled many many times to all areas of Mexico especially the Yucatan peninsula and love it as well.
We spend a great deal of time in Destin Florida. In fact we were set on moving to Destin but I do long for the island life and something a bit more exotic and removed from the normal day to day of the mainland.
I mention our background so those willing to share know that we have been exposed to island life etc. BUT obviously things can and probably have changed quite a bit over the last 10 years or so.
Anyway, I am in my early 50's, my wife is 38 and we have a 6 year old and a 5 month old.
Can anyone share thoughts, opinions and comparisons about and between STX and Rincon Puerto Rico?
I own a resort development,, consulting and sales and marketing firm and hope to offer my services in the location we choose.
My wife is an incredible cook/self taught "chef", artist and marketing executive. She hopes to put those loves into some kind of business.
In addition, we hope to identify new business and service needs wherever we move and start new businesses as well if and when possible.
So as not to paint the wrong picture, we are coming out of a devastating economic collapse with our businesses but both are back on the rise so we will not be coming in throwing money around. On the contrary, while our businesses are on the rebound and can be ran from a computer and phone, we will be continuing to rebuild to a large degree. We just decided to rebuild in a beach community and break as far away from the mainland rat race as possible.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
My grandmother lives in Puerto Rico and my friend and I are planning on selling everything we own and moving down there. We are both 24 and want to live the type of "beach bum" lifestyle we have come to love. When we get to Puerto Rico we plan on finding basic, minimum wage jobs just so we can be earning some kind of income. we're not looking to get rich or find these crazy succesfull jobs. we just love the ocean and the over all relaxed feeling of island life. So my question is, has anyone done anything similar? has anyone been to Puerto Rico and what have you thought of it? is it dangerous? Any stories and advice you can share are much appreciated!
also, please dont tell me how bad of an idea it is or how we are both just dreaming. we realize this probably wont work out but we are willing to fail giving it a shot. at worst we'll come back home with a story to tell.
What is the name of the area in San Juan where there all the locals go on Thursday and Friday night? It is an area where there are bars and restaurants and everyone is hanging out in the streets, walking around, dancing and drinking. I had a lot of fun there but can't remember the name that this area is called. Can someone help me out?
Which hotel has beach access but is also conveniently located to some lively clubs and bars, maybe walking distance?
I went once from San Juan to Ponce and it was not expensive, about $40 round trip. Any tips would be appreciated
I would like to know the names of some cheap guest houses or hotels in Rio Piedras close proximity to the train station and Plaza Las Americas. Thanks
cost of taxi ride for 5 people to el san juan resort
We're a retired couple. We've done the usual internet search for budget accommodations in San Juan, and the same 4 or 5 places keep coming up, none of which are available (and some not acceptable, i.e., dorms). We'll be there in early January and again in late March. Would like to be near Old San Juan, but at this point would be happy to find a place within easy transportation from there. Wondering WHY PR is so expensive. We didn't expect it to be cheap like DR, where we will be the rest of the time, but can find almost nothing less than $100. Would stay a week or more somewhere if there were a price break for a longer stay. Any suggestions?
We are planning an October cruise sailing out of San Juan. We will be arriving From Philadelphia, PA-is it risky to fly in the day of cruise departure?
I read that there are thousands of homeless street dogs around Puerto Rico. I am a huge dog lover and if I see this it will break my heart and be very emotionally draining. Will this be a common sight if I visit San Juan for a week (beach vacation and a few excursions).. Thanks :)

We're cruising into San Juan from our vacation around 7am on a Sunday and won't catch our flight home until 4 pm. We were interested in visiting the Bacardi factory maybe, is there a place to store bags at the airport or could we check them in very early then leave for the day?
How can I get from SJU airport to Aguadilla without renting a car? Any transfer companies (limo, shuttles) that offer rides there and back?
My wife and I are celebrating our 10th anniversary in Puerto Rico without our kids in late June and were wondering what hotel would provide beach access, have good pools but not be overrun with kids. We are debating between the Stellaris Marriott, La Concha or Ritz Carlton. They all seem to be similar price wise, so any thoughts on which hotel is preferable? Thanks.
Does the city of San Juan have a visitor's pass that will allow entrance to several museums or attractions in old San Juan? Thank you
Are the hotels overly packed and touristy in Mid June. Im hoping to come down on my honeymoon and want to stay in the Rtiz, but i heard San Juan can be overly busy and I dont know if thats the feeling I want on my honeymoon,
