    • Beach close to airport

San Juan Jan 10, 2015 at 7:50 PM

We have a long wait for our flight back home and would like to check our luggage then go to a beach to hang out until our flight leaves. Not sure what beach is close enough and safe enough. Also, can you just walk onto any beach or do you have to be staying at a hotel there? Will it be easy to get a taxi back to the airport? Thanks.

      Safe parking at Ceiba airport?

Puerto Rico Jan 5, 2015 at 8:27 AM

We'll have a rental car on the big island, but taking a two-night side trip to Vieques by air from Ceiba. I have heard that leaving a car may not be safe. Can anyone tell me if I need to find a "secure" lot, or is basic airport parking adequate?

I'm planning my wedding @ El conquistador for next year & my family keeps finding articles about puerto rico being unsafe. We are from a suburb near Chicago and I keep reassurimg them it will be fine as long as we stay near the resort. Does anyone have any experiences in this area to speak to? I appreciate the reassurance! Thanks!

Bio bay tour - Boat or kayak?

Isla de Vieques Jan 5, 2015 at 8:01 AM

Trying to decide which tour to take. I hope to take a lot of photos, and figure that handling paddles and camera would be a hassle (not to mention the angst of tipping with a good camera). We can get our recreational paddling in during the day at another venue. On the other hand, a boat with 22 passengers (per Island Adventures Tours) sounds a bit crowded.

Any advice would be welcome. Abe's appears to be the premier kayak tour outfit? By a stroke of luck, we'll be there at almost the darkest phase of the moon.

Ideas? Where to spend our last night

      Puerto Rico 6 hours ago

We'll be spending about 12 days in PR in February - 2-4 days in each of the following: Old Town, El Yunque, Vieques and Culebra. We have about 24 hours with a rental car (landing about noon in Ceiba, and departing next day from SJU). Without pounding the road too hard, any suggestions for that last day/night? We're not too keen on big resorts, especially all-inclusives.

      Thanks in advance.

      bus vs taxi

San Juan Dec 12, 2014 at 1:09 PM

Arriving at SJU and staying at Coral by the Sea hotel...is there a bus that runs directly to this hotel rather than loading and unloading and paying $1.00 per bag...there are 6 of us plus a child so either has to be a HUGE van with bags or likely easier on bus. Do buses allow luggage?
Can we take bus from hotel to the cruise port or does it require taking more than 1 bus and going for an hour adventure tour?
Buses are 75cents or something...no baggage fee. Just seems such a waste when hotel is not even 5 minutes from airport.

      Getting to/between the islands

Puerto Rico Dec 5, 2014 at 8:51 AM

Planning travel for February. My Fodor's guide makes it sound like a piece of cake to and between Vieques and Culebra from the main island. But my research indicates that it's rather expensive to fly, and that ferries are unpredictable at best, and almost no way to get between the islands without going back to PR.

Can anybody give me any suggestions?

San Juan Nov 23, 2014 at 4:53 AM

I am planning a trip to San Juan for my birthday in December and want to make the most of the 3 nights I will be there. I've been doing research but still can't seem to choose the best hotel with the best beach near the best night life. The most important thing on this trip would have to be beach bc I've never been to an island. I'd like to experience white sand with calm blue waters.

    • Puerto Rico hostel (+surfcamp?) recommendation

Puerto Rico Nov 15, 2014 at 2:26 AM

      Hello,

Can someone recommend a nice hostel in puerto rico, where it's easy to meet other travellers, backpackers?
It would be perfect, when there is the possibility included to take surf lessons (or diving), but the most important thing is to meet other people, maybe at the beach but also with the option to party.
      Any suggestions? Budget: around 50$/night

      thanks!

Looking for location of Old bar in old San Juan

San Juan Oct 14, 2014 at 9:25 AM

visited a very old bar in old San Juan few years ago. Can't remember name of place but would like to visit again in Jan. It was a small bar (maybe seating for 6-8 people) few tables, but had an opening in roof off to the side in a courtyard, really old bathrooms, and I think sold clothing or something upstairs on second floor. nothing fancy but had really OLD feel to the place. Any help would be very much appreciated, Thank you.

Renting vacation home - suggestions for locations

Puerto Rico Sep 29, 2014 at 3:32 AM

      Hello all,

I'm planning a 5 day vacation to PR in April 2015. I will have a large group - anywhere from 15 to 20. I'm planning on doing a vacation rental from one of the popular sites. But am struggling on location. We want to be on the beach in a safe area but close enough to the city so we can drive or take a cab. Not sure if that's possible but want some suggestions on areas to stay in. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm looking to book a trip to rent a house, condo or villa for 10 days in Rincon via. Does anyone have any suggestions on locations, beaches, best areas for me? Also, how long does it take to drive from airport to Rincon, we will be renting a car. Also wondering if the San Juan airport offers small plane service to Aquadilla Airport and if that's the best suggestion. Any other tips are greatly appreciated. Going in November.
