IMMEDIATE ADVICE NEEDED? Do I need to take Malaria tablets for Iguassu Falls and bus to Buenos Aires

by 04072511 Online Now Sep 21, 2010 at 10:18 AM

In a few days I go to Iguassu Falls.

The following links shows that Iguassu Falls is in a malaria risk zone

fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk/des...

In addition I will be getting a bus from Puerto Iguazu to Buenos Aires which goes through this malaria risk zone. But it seems that so many people dont bother taking malaria tablets for the falls. So do I need to take the malarone tablets for the falls and more importantly the drive through the malaria zone

Thanks

No-one here can tell you that. Even if one of us were a medical practitioner, we would not know your personal health status.

You should take advice from your own GP or travel health specialist, and from the relevant websites. The NHS site is reliable and regularly updated. Then you must make your own informed decision about whether you wish to take the risk of visiting without anti-malarials.

Malaria is a killer. Do not underestimate the risk; it only takes one bite.

We just booked flights for next year today, so can't speak from experience. However, having just seen a program on malaria, assuming it is recommended by the NHS, we will definately be taking malaria precautions rather than risk a life of suffering or at worst death. Not only that, but see attached link and the risk of dengue fever. fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-liv...
