When arriving at Puerto Chacabuco on a cruise ship,is their private tour companies to do tours with or is it best to book a tour from the ship? Also if there are private tour companies, which are the recommended ones?
There are plenty of tour operators that are based in Coyhaique. Probably on the cruise ship you will have limited options. You can book fishing in pristine rivers, trekking in the woods, visit National parks, etc...

Check the forum boards on Cruisecritic.com, there are usually helpful suggestions on how to book tours on your own. The only time I'd recommend against doing that is in ports that might be seen as a little dangerous to wander off on your own or if the time in port is short. We had 4 people arrive after the ship's sailing time when we were in Aruba recently, they were lucky that they weren't left behind.
