I posted on here some time ago seeking assistance in my quest to be able to work in Amsterdam. The help I received and the contacts I have has secured me a job in Amsterdam which I am extremely happy about. I will be working at the Schiphol airport and my accommodation is in a village called Wijk Aan Zee - around 30 minutes drive from the airport.
I am extremely happy to be experiencing this position in Amsterdam, I am also being accompanied by my long time friend who has been employed for the same position. We will be accommodated together. He is 21 and I am 20, we are both born in the UK. We both have a passion for music and are willing to work hard to be able to enjoy the luxuries Amsterdam has to offer. We would love to have the pleasure of experiencing different lines of work in Amsterdam, networking with locals and meeting new people.
We have been researching travel routes to central Amsterdam online and we have discovered it's easily accessible by bus in train in roughly 1 hour each way which is great so on some of our days off of work we can go and explore Dam central. We are keen to explore many parts of Amsterdam also, both of us are (attempting) to learn Dutch.
The reason I am posting here are as follows.
I was firstly wondering if anybody reading this has lived in Wijk Aan Zee, that would have anything to say about it for example the food, transport, coffee shops (if any) etc. This is our first time living in Amsterdam.
We are also calling for any other advice from Dutch residents which they'd be willing to give regarding a transition to living in Amsterdam, who may have started in a similar position as my friend and I. It was our dream to work in Amsterdam and make a new lives for ourselves and it has finally come true. As I said earlier, we would love to network with as many people in the dutch community as possible to better our stay and so that we can become a part of the community.
Any comments are welcome, we will be arriving in Amsterdam just in time for 4/20!

We would like to explore this area of Amsterdam. We like to walk and would like advice on a good route to take around de Pijp -- and what points of interest to look out for. Thanks.
Hi there, I'm planning a trip to Amsterdam in April and we want to include some horse racing. I see that there is a track in Alkmaar (drafcentrum)? I would appreciate any information such as location, when the race days are and at what times etc. Also is it easy to get to from Amsterdam (where we will be staying) Many thanks for any help in advance.
Hi members what is the most economical way to travel Europe to Ireland, Czech Republic, Italy and Crete. Flying in and out of Amsterdam... 2 persons 2 suitcases
Hello to all :)
As the title says, i am planing a move to Amsterdam. What i am trying to decide is where should i live?
I was hoping to get some good advice from the experienced Amsterdam people on this board, as i have been using this website for guidance before and been impressed. First time i ask a question though :)
- Looking for an apartment at a price range of 1.000 to 1.500 euros per month
- An artistic/bohemian area with art galleries of all kinds
- Park(s) not to far away would be great as i love the idea of sitting with my laptop under a tree while working
- Easy transportation
- Not a tourist area
- A relatively safe area would be preferred
- I basically need inspiration, so good architecture, art, parks, cafes, interesting people etc are places and things that
would be of great interest and valuable inspiration...
Asking a lot from one area probably, but ill give it a try anyways :)
Appreciate any help i can get...
Has anyone ever flown to Amsterdam and back on the same day or ever flown out for weekend without somewhere to sleep and just party all night long? Flight only takes 40mins from my local airport, so it takes longer to travel to London then it does to Amsterdam and the same price if not cheaper travel.

Hi there, seen some fantastic Q+A on this site, the best yet in my search, so thought I would pitch this to you guys seeking advice from people who clearly know!
Me (20) and my friend (21) both live in the UK. We are interested in Amsterdam for it's culture, monuments and night life. We have both been working jobs in retail/customer services since we left school.
My friends moving date is in mid/late April. This is around 9 weeks away. We both have between £2000 minimum and £3500 maximum in savings to take out to support us.
The plan is to find some work before we get out there. I understand, it is difficult to get a job in Amsterdam. Especially for non dutch speakers. Are there many jobs in the tourist areas of Amsterdam?
We are also looking for some rented accomodation which we can put our savings towards, but only if we can secure a job before we arrive out there - which to me is proving very difficult without any school or college qualifications!
We are both very keen, polite, well spoken and well mannered men from the UK who bring good skills in customer services - in the given time frame, is what we are asking for too much? If we were to both arrive in Amsterdam without work, what would then be the chances of us finding work before our savings run out?
Any responses would be fantastic. Thankyou.
what is the best way to get to Amsterdam central by bus from Dennenlaan ?
I am driving to Amsterdam this weekend, and am going to use the park and ride on the suburbs of the city .
They all say €8 p.day, and a bus ticket to the center. They all say a maximum of 5 people and there are 6 of us. Can the extra one of us jus t pay for the bus ride or will we not be able to use this?

Hi, I'm a Filipino working for an Irish based company and I'll be traveling from Singapore to Amsterdam and then have my connecting flight there to Cork. I fly KLM from SG-AMS and have 2hrs interval before my flight to AMS-Cork via Aer Lingus. If I have checked-in baggage do I need to pass immigration to collect it and re check-in again? I have my schengen visa valid 3 days after when I return to AMS from Cork because they said I don't need any visa to transit. But I'm flying to different airlines and I'm not sure if they have codeshare flights. Help please?
I have a 40 minute connection time. I am NOT an EU passport holder. Will I have enough time to make this KLM transfer? The MAN to SCH flight is standard KLM, while the SCH to GVA is on KLM Cityhopper. KLM website says I do, apparently.
Will I have to go through Passport Control AND Security? I will connecting from non-Schengen (UK) to a Schengen area flight. Thanks!
I am flying from SEA through AMS to LHR on Delta. I have always had hand luggage but this time will need to check. Does checked luggage have to be claimed in AMS and go through security or does it just go on to LHR.
We are six young students traveling to Amsterdam.

I'm going to be in town for a few days in July, the first and third weeks probably. Are there any good websites that will tell me what's going on in town? Also, how about a recommendation on a decent hotel, not too posh, with a good view of the canals?
My partner and I (both aged 26) will be doing a bit Europe trip as I have posted in other threads. I'm now going to break down what we are looking at doing and seeing peoples thoughts. If there is anything that stands out I am missing or must do is the reason for my posts! Thanks in advance.
Free Walking Tour
I have been recommend the free New Europe walking tour. It covers a lot of ground and gives good general overview of the city.
I have been told to skip the big canal boat tours and hire a private boat tour for less money?
Van Gogh Museum
Seems like a must!

Looking to buy cigars next visit. What cost and where to buy? (henri winterman half-corona preferred)
On the 20th of January I need to get from Amsterdam to London. I'm in no particular hurry and know that there are many ways to get there. If you've made this trip other than flying, what method(s) did you use and how did you enjoy the journey?
I will be in A-dam mid June. Traveling solo....anything good going on?
We are coming to Amsterdam in May, driving in from Brussels. My question is where to park? I am thinking of staying at the Crown Plaza where parking costs 40 euros (or maybe another hotel with no parking). I recognize that parking is expensive anywhere in the city, so I was thinking of Park&Ride from the Amsterdam Arena (8 euros). Is it easy? Can I get a taxi from there instead of public transport?
I'll be flying on a Sunday, Delhi to AMS to BOS. I'll be in business class if that helps with security lines. My bags should check right thru and with a 3 hr 40min layover, do I have enough time to take the train into the city and take a few pictures? Thanks!
