    • Excursions near Guanacaste

Costa Rica May 15, 2013 at 7:30 PM

Hi there. My husband and I will be at the Riu Palace in Guanacaste July 15th through the 20th for our honeymoon. Any recommendations on "must-see" excursions? We don't want to do more than one or two days off of the resort, and would love feedback from anyone who's visited this part of the country. Thanks so much!

Costa Rica May 4, 2013 at 2:01 AM

I'm planning a trip to Costa Rica and wondering if there are good places to trade into. I'm a member in Interval and also in 3rdHome, both of which have places down there. Just wondering if anybody has suggestions on the best destinations to visit. I'd also like to do some eco-touring and explore the rainforest. Any input is welcome.

    • Travel packages in Costa Rica

Costa Rica May 15, 2013 at 7:11 AM

      Hello!
I'm going from Sweden to Costa Rica this fall. I checked on line and found that the local travel agencies offer "package" with hotels, excursions, local guide, some meals and travel in a minibus in the country. A week costs about $ 500 and 14 days approx $ 1800 depending on which hotel you choose. The condition is that I must pay in advance via internet. Has anyone been there with experience if it is ok or should I wait and book when I get there and travel around for myself and choose according to the conditions in each place I visit?
I'm not afraid of a little trouble and have fun for the money I can save. Thanks in advance.
      Farstache.

      Cancel or not?

Costa Rica May 11, 2013 at 7:52 AM

When we booked our trip, we did not realize that May was the beginning of the rainy season. Should we cancel our trip? We will be there May 20-26, 2013. We would like a couple of days at the beach. A little rain would be fine, but not the whole time. As of now, the forecast is cloudy and showers. We are spending 3 days in Manuel Antonio and two in Arenal. What do you think?

    • Help with Trip to Tegucigalpa, Honduras

San José Feb 29, 2012 at 12:00 PM

In the second week of May I need to be in Tegucigalpa, Honduras on a Wednesday (9th). I am hoping someone can suggest a short trip that I could take, arriving on the previous Friday (4th) or Saturday (5th), and ending in Tegucigalpa on Wednesday. I am currently considering flying into San Jose and traveling by bus through Nicaragua, but not committed to that in anyway. Other than the definite need to be in Tegucigalpa on Wednesday, I have no other requirements. I would prefer to fly into a major city to keep airfare down (flying in from Major US city), but other than that my budget is pretty flexible. I am also flexible to travel conditions. I need to book my flight soon, so any quick suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Travis

    • 7-days in Costa Rica. Can we really see anything?

San José Jan 4, 2012 at 9:11 PM

Hi, My wife and I are investigating a trip to Costa Rica early February for one week. I wanted to get some advice from knowledgeable folks in this forum. We love the outdoors, love to self-drive when we can and at other times tour using buses, trains, and shuttles. We are looking to hike, explore wildlife, possibly snorkel, and also visit some of the ruins. If time permits, we'd love to visit some of the beaches and also some other adventure tours. 1. Is one week sufficient for us to explore Costa Rica? 2. If we were to select one or two experiences that we would immerse ourselves in over the course of the week, what would they be? 3. What cities are a must visit during our stay? 4. Any suggestions on possible itineraries would be great. Thanks

    • What time do I need to get to the airport?

San José Dec 8, 2011 at 2:45 PM

My Delta flight leaves at 2:15PM on Tuesday, January 2nd going to Atlanta. It is flying out of San Jose, Costa Rica. The tour I am on says they expect to have me at the airport sometime between 11AM - 11:30AM (give or take 30 minutes for traffic issues), since it is a 4-hour drive. They say I should not take that flight because I will risk missing it. If I do not take that flight, I have to stay an extra day, which I do not want to do. I am a Diamond Medallion Delta member - do they have an expedited sky priority check-in lane there and/or a expedited sky priority security line there that might help??? What time do you think a good time would be to arrive? If worse came to worse and I arrived at noon because of a lot of traffic, do you think I would miss my 2:15 flight?? Thanks for any advice/input! :)

Provincia de San José Sep 24, 2011 at 12:25 PM

Hi Everyone, This is my first visit, so please excuse any ignorance I may exhibit. Some friends have offered us a time share for a week in CR. Although it looks like the northwest is more tourism oriented, the only place we can find that is available anytime soon is "Hotel del Sur" in San Isidoro del General. Would this location work as a base for a week's visit? We can rent a car; a 4x4 if necessary. Any advice would be appreciated; I need to make a decision pretty quickly thanks, Brad

From the airport to Santa Elena

San José Jan 24, 2010 at 9:47 AM

I know, the proper way to get from San Jose to Santa Elena is via the bus that leaves from San Jose at 2:30 PM. Put I can't get a flight that arrives at the airport in time to make the trip from the airport to the bus station. Anyway, I already have my ticket--I arrive at 3:00 PM. So is there another way? For example, is there a bus that goes from the airport to Santa Elana? My alternative is to spend the night and leave the next day, rent a car, or take a taxi for a four hour trip. I don't really want to do any of these. I appreciate any advice!

San José Oct 19, 2009 at 3:25 PM

We are arriving in San Jose at the Pavas airport on a Nature Air flight from Nosara at 11:30 am on January 9. We would like to get a Mepe bus to Puerto Viejo from the Terminal Gran Caribe mid-afternoon. How much time should we allow between these two parts of our trip? We would like to take the earliest bus possible because it is a long trip. I've heard the buses often sell out, especially on a weekend. Is it possible to arrange for a taxi driver to purchase our bus tickets in advance and then meet us at the Pavas airport to take us to the bus terminal?

San José Aug 30, 2009 at 7:32 AM

We were in San Jose a few years ago and had a fantastic meal at a restaurant recommended by someone from the north...it was a combination of a wonderful buffet and also many kinds of meats served by waiters at your table, as often and as plentifully as desired. Now I am sad and embarrased to have forgotten the name...it was in an odd location and I remember the taxi having trouble finding it. Is this familiar to any Virtualtourists? I would greatly appreciate help remembering the name.
