    • Is cliff jumping at the Nauyaca Waterfalls possible in January?

Costa Rica Dec 14, 2014 at 4:18 PM

Traveling to Costa Rica at the end of January. My itenarary includes a trip to the Nauyaca Waterfalls. There is a place there to make a 75ft jump into the water at the base of the falls. During the time of the year when I will be there (dry season?) will there be enough water to do the jumps at the falls?
      Thanks, Brian

Bus Travel Across CR in early March, 2015

Costa Rica Nov 22, 2014 at 3:12 PM

My wife and I are getting off a cruise ship in Limon on the East coast at about 7:00 am and want to take a bus to Tamarindo, on the West coast, so hopefully a daylight trip across CR. What bus service is available and how reliable and comfortable is it? BTW, we are both seniors and I am 6'4". We travel light, just with carry-ons. Any advice is appreciated.

      Driving in Costa Rica

Costa Rica Nov 28, 2014 at 10:15 PM

      Hola!
Ok, we are about to leave for San Jose, then Quepos, with a couple day stop in Cartago for work first. I am braving it by renting a car out of the airport. Two questions please:
      1. For some reason I am kinda nervous about driving in and around San Jose. I speak a bit of Spanish and normally I am an excellent driver (live in LA and have driven in many places). Are there any different rules or customs that will get me in trouble? Should I take this more seriously than just going for it?

      2. My first leg will be driving from the main airport and then down towards Cartago. I see what looks easy in taking Highway 1 to Highway 39 to Highway 2. But I am looking at Google earth and see they have many alternate names. My question is if they post the highway names very well, or should I write down and look for every one of these Calles y Avenidas?

Should I just take a taxi! Or should I just not worry, It mostly makes sense????

      Thanks ahead for any advise.
      Rich.

    • Coconut Grove

      Dominical Apr 8, 2014 at 5:13 PM

Has anyone stayed at this hotel? It seems quite nice, and a good option (ie. meaning it's well reviewwed, around the $100 range and close to the beach).

We're trying to decide between Coconut Grove and Villas Rio Mar, which seems like another great option.

      Thanks!

    • is a car necessary?

      Dominical Apr 6, 2014 at 8:53 PM

Hello, VTers! We have decided that we're doing 4 nights and 5 days in the Dominical / Quepos / Manuel Antonio area.

We're trying to do it without a car, but I'm not sure if it would make things very inconvenient for us, and it's just not worth it do that area without a car.

We arrive in Quepos via shuttle on the morning of Day 1, and we plan to go straight to Dominical. Would you recommend taking a public bus, or taxi down to Dominical from Quepos, if we don't have a car?

Then we were planning on spending the day in Dominical and Uvita on Days 1 and 2. For Days 3 and 4, we were planning on moving up to Quepos and MA, and then we fly out to San Jose on Day 5.

Would you recommend staying in Quepos / MA for the entire 4 nights, and doing day trips down to Dominical and Uvita? Or is a good idea to spend 2 nights in Dominical, and then 2 nights in Quepos? Do you recommend a car to do this? Or do you think that public transport is adequate? The bus from Quepos to Dominical seems to take 2 hours.

Even in Dominical, it seems it's advisable that we have a car. We were hoping to find accommodations (around $100 per night) in Dominical, but I can't seem to find a good place right in town. The good places seem to be either over $150, or pretty shabby. The places that are reasonable and well rated seem to require a car, as they're just outside of Dominical (ex. Villas Rios Mar).

What are your thoughts in trying to do this area without a car?

      Many thanks in advance!

My flight leaves San Jose at 7am and ideally I'd like to leave Manuel Antonio around midnight/ early hours of the morning so I can spend the day there and go straight to the airport. Could I get a taxi or private driver or will I have to leave earlier in the day and spend a night in San Jose

    • **Need a ride!! ** Couple and their well-behaved dog *San Jose to Quepos*

      Quepos Aug 8, 2012 at 3:49 PM

      Hi everyone

Me and my boyfriend and our dog are relocating to Quepos and ideally wish to leave tomorrow from San Jose. I'm aware the buses don't take dogs so it appears our only option so far is a private shuttle which costs around200. (I didn't think that through when I adopted my dog!)

I appreciate this is such short notice but if anyone has any ideas for a more economical way to get there or if anyone is travelling to Quepos in the next couple of days and would be willing to take the three of us we'd be more than willing to pay gas money. Unfortunately renting a car is not an option as my purse was stolen with my driving licence in it a few months ago :(

Thanks so much for your time.
