      Ecuador Apr 12, 2014 at 9:31 AM

Hi all, I'm a French guy living now in Ibarra.

My passion: mountaineering, hiking, camping... CLIMBING VOLCANOES ! I need to find people as it is dangerous to climb mountains on its ownno...

And here that's quite hard to find people, as most of people don't see the interest of climbing! ...
I can't and don't want to pay a guide for climbing volcanoes which do no require a guide and it is much more interesting with friends. smiley Contact me!!

    • Getting TO Baltra airport

Isla Santa Cruz Apr 15, 2014 at 1:18 PM

We have a screwy problem that my paranoia (Anything that might go wrong WILL!) causes me to ask a few questions. We are going to fly into Baltra the day before our Celebrity cruise leaves. The hotel has arranged-for 65 bucks- to meet us at the airport, escort us onto the shuttle bus and across on the ferry to a taxi to the hotel. For irritating reasons Celebrity insists that we must return all the way to the airport, the next morning and they "cannot" link up with us anywhere else--(like at the bottom of the hill from the airport).

So, does the shuttle between the ferry dock and the airport run frequently or intermittently? Is there a problem with us trying to get back from the ferry dock to the airport without escort?? (Celebrity has said it is not LEGAL for us to be unescorted!!) I guess we are confident we can get back from the hotel to the ferry dock on the Santa Cruz side--for a lot less than $65-but is there a problem with us getting across and up to the airport on our own??

      Thanks so much!!

PS My paranoia is not absurd! I managed to be trying to get to the airport-in Australia the morning the Sydney bridge was suddenly closed by a strike--in Copenhagen the morning the Metro was closed for maintenance with less than 12 hours notice--in Los Angeles when the driver coming to pick us up called at the very time we were expecting him to arrive to say he was an hour away "because of traffic"

      cruise question for July 2014

Galápagos Islands Apr 9, 2014 at 5:49 AM

      hi all,
I read lots of postings about last minute booking on cruises in Galapagos. I will be in Quito July 6. i will be in Ecuador from july 6-28. Many people say they get amazing last minute deal. I would like advice on what would be a reasonable last minute price ( a range) for tourist superior, for 8days? And in which area of Quito to find these deals? my first day will be about shopping around. Should I book a flight now to the Galapagos, then try to find a last minute cruise on the island? would you also recommend I stay longer in the island (which one) for a couple more days? we are snorkelers.
I know I will be in peak season, but willing to take the risk of last minute deals. your advice is much appreciated! Mario.baril@hotmail.fr

    • Booking lodges near Misahualli

Puerto Misahuallí Feb 9, 2014 at 7:43 AM

We are planning to spend a couple of nights at a lodge down river from Misahualli at the end of March. We are looking for a budget lodge that is clean but also offers good food and guides for birding and nature hikes. Would like to be in as primary rainforest as is possible for this region. Any suggestions on a place, and is reserving in advance necessary? Thanks

    • Flying to Tena

      Tena Feb 9, 2014 at 7:27 AM

I had researched options to travel to Tena and didn't find any info about flying, including asking an agent in Quito, but I just saw flights available on the Tame Airlines booking website. Quito to Tena (Jumandy Airport). Can you tell me where the airport is that they land at? It looks like it is near Misahualli, but not sure? Also, should I trust booking on the Tame website, as it now takes credit card payment by foreign credit cards? Gracias

      Rainy season in the Oriente

      Cuyabeno Feb 7, 2014 at 10:42 PM

I plan to do a Cuyabeno jungle trip in mid may. Can I expect a lot of rain - will there be so much that it will affect what we can do? Or should we give it a pass and spend more time elsewhere in Ecuador?

Canoe journey from Tena to Iquitos via river Napo.

Provincia de Napo Aug 21, 2010 at 5:34 AM

Hi everybody. Early November, I'm planning to fly to Quito (I live in Rome), bus to Tena, buy a canoe, then paddle the canoe from Tena on the Napo river (Ecuador) to Iquitos (Peru). 1,400 kilometres, Tena-Iquitos by canoe should take around 2 to 3 months. I would appreciate any advice from anybody that knows the region, or has had experience travelling distance in a canoe. I'll take a hammock, to sleep in the jungle at night. I do speak Spanish.

      Thanks.
