What to do in/around East London

by BobbieDub Online Now Feb 17, 2012 at 2:04 PM

Hello everyone,
My partner and I will be in East London in April and are staying in Gulu. Can anyone recommend things to do in and around the area? I think the max time of traveling to activities or attractions will be about 2-3 hours so that seems to be restricting things a lot.
All ideas appreciated.

I don't think that the travel limitation should be that restrictive - there are lots of things to do within that radius.
The obvious attraction is the Addo Elephant Park and all the associated attractions.
The charming university town of Grahamstown would also be in reach, as would be the endearingly sleepy farming town of Bathurst and the increasingly upmarket coastla town of Port Alfred.
In general, the Eastern Cape is not a place of 'major tourist attractions'. However, I mean this in a good way, as the charm is the lovely coastline, pretty landscape and lots of out of the way placs to discover that are slightly off the beaten tourist track, yet fairly accessible.
