      Tents

      Morocco Yesterday

We will be going on tour in Morocco. One night we sleep in a tent camp. "Furthermore, via a dirt road to Merzouga dunes with beautiful landscape where you admire the sunset. Dinner and overnight in tents, under the big sky of the south center of the vast desert." Does anyone know what we can expect in these tents?

I would like to rent a normal car (not a 4x4) to travel through Morocco. Does anyone know if it's allowed to drive up till M'semrir in the Dadès valley with this car? And up till Merzouga?

      Thanks a lot!

Fez to Marrakesh or Marrakesh to Marrakesh

      Morocco Apr 23, 2013 at 6:44 AM

      Hi,

My friend and me are thinking of a 3 days / 2 night trip (including dessert safari). We are thinking of either fez to marrakseh or marrakesh to marakesh. Would appreciate suggestion or advise on which is more worthwhile to pursue?

Separately, whatis the immigration (visa on arrival) process like for morocco? Is it anything like in Cairo (I personally ffound the immigration process in Cairo a bit chaotic with some agents seem to have "express" lane)?
      Thanks heaps before hand.

    • help with planning a trip to morocco

      Morocco May 11, 2013 at 2:10 PM

Hey! we are a family of 7 age 17-55 travelling to Morocco October. we have 9 days, landing and departing from Casablanca and our limitation is that on the nights of day 3,4,5,6 we have to sleep in Marrakesh since one of us is attending a conference there (the rest are free to do one-day tours from day 4 and on)

we are looking for a cool and adventurous trip with nature, history an culture.

This is an offer we got from a travel guide -- i would love to hear recommendations and comments from people who have been to Morocco recently about this plan..

      thank you!!! / Uri

      ===================

      the plan:

Day 1 Arrive in Casablanca airport drive straight to Rabat for brief visit of the Hassan Tower and the Mausoleum of Mohamed V and then on to Fez for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 A full day today to visit the oldest Imperial city in Morocco with the oldest university in the world. Our day begins in the old Medina with Fez El Bali - old Fez - the
Andalusian and the Karaouine quarter with its dyers and tanners and artisans working in the style of their forefathers.
As the day progresses we take in the Mellah - the Jewish quarter, with its old cemetery and the Royal Palace. A fascinating day finishing back in the hotel for overnight and the possibility to eat dinner out..

Day 3 Drive South to Marrakech via Beni Mellal. A scenic route taking us through some of the prettiest scenery of the Middle Atlas. Check in to our Marrakech hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Morning tour of Marrakech taking in the historical sites and then afternoon free maybe to visit the Souks and the fabulous Djemma El Fna Square with its’ fortune tellers, dancers, snake charmers and water sellers. This square really is the heart of Marrakech. You will have time to wander around or just sit in one of the roof top cafes surrounding the square. Sit and enjoy this incredible picture postcard – a living theatre with the Atlas mountains as a backdrop before returning to our hotel for overnight. Or maybe take a Caleche (Horse drawn carriage) and visit the Majorelles Gardens made famous by Yves St. Laurent. Dinner can be taken outside.

Day 5 An early start today for Essaouuira, once known as Mogador. The "Purple Islands" off the coast were used by the Romans for the dying of their togas and we explore the old Medina little changed since its Portuguese occupants left; Back to Marrakech for overnight stay. Dinner again can be taken outside.

Day 6 Free day today or maybe a High Atlas adventure with jeeps and mules and some of the most spectacular scenery in Morocco with views over Mount Toubkal. Back to Marrakech and overnight with dinner outside.

Day 7 and 8 Leave for the South via Ouarzazate with its Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah made famous in many Hollywood films finally ending the day in Zagora and ultimately th Sahara Desert. Overnight with dinner in tents. Breakfast early the next morning to see the sunrise over the dunes and then set off for the return to Marrakech where we take dinner and overnight.

Day 9 Depending on the flight time leave for Casablanca airport

Surfing and camping Morroco with 4 year old

      Agadir Aug 14, 2011 at 1:08 PM

hi Everyone, As the title of this post suggests, me and my girlfriend are planning on a surf trip to Morroco, the region of Agadir/Taghazout during november this year. Our idea is to spend as much time as possible in the region, so we can stay away from the Scandinavian winter for as long as possible. So at least 2 months. We would like to find a safe camping ground close to some surf spots where we could spend most of our time as the main purpose is to surf. Staying in backpackers and surfcamps would force us to make the trip shorter due to the price these places charge nowadays, so we are taking tents and intend to camp. We also want to take our surfboards, wetsuits etc.. as well as our 4 year old son. Anyway, if someone could share some experience on the following issues it would be very much appreciated: Does anyone know about camping grounds on the region? Fees? Safety on camping grounds? Things to look out for when travelling with kids on the region? Best ways to get around without a car? I have other doubts that are not coming to mind now, but i will post them as the threads come in. Thank you. Rafael.

was recommended to use moroccan-discovery transfer company to transport our family from marrakech airport to agadir, have checked out their rates and they seem really reasonable compared with others. has anyone used this company? only this seems much better than using the supratours bus, and direct flights to agadir are way too expensive, which is why we have to fly ryanair into marrackech. would love to hear from someone who has knowledge of this company for they offer reasonable tours as well.

    • holiday resort or building site?

      Agadir Mar 30, 2008 at 7:54 AM

I have read recently where there appears to be quite a good deal of construction and excavation works going on the beach in Agadir. I am heading for Agadir in June, staying at Riu Tikida Dunas - I was wondering if this hotel is in the full view of this construction work? Is this work extensive and does anybody know if it is long term? I am looking forward to going to Morocco for the first time and I would welcome any comments about this area of Agadir. With this work going on, is the beach inaccessible or does it interfere with the beach access? Is this hotel as good as the reviews that have been submited? Are mosquitos a problem here? I always seem to attract these unwanted visitors!! Does any member have any suggestion on avoiding these attacks from these mosquitos? An intake of garlic tablets prior to departure was suggested to me - useful suggestion or not? I'd welcome comments or suggestions. Bdavitt

Obtaining Moroccan money - Very Urgent!

      Agadir Mar 1, 2008 at 9:26 AM

Hello, I am going to post this in several places in order to try to figure this out. I went to my local currency exchange place and bought Moroccan dirhams...or so I thought...I said that's what I wanted. I have some 100 and 200 dirham bills. But, I have been reading that one cannot buy Moroccan money outside the country. What is happening? Are these not real Moroccan dirhams...I know that the dirham is the currency for several Arab countries..and these look like the pictures that I've seen of Moroccan money. Should I take them back, exchange them back into dollars, put the money in the bank, then withdraw through the ATM's in Morocco. I want to bring enough to buy a small carpet. Please help me to decide! Thank you very much.
