The easiest way is to skip the train completely and go directly to Boston via Peter Pan Bus Lines a/k/a Bonanza Bus. There are roughly twenty departures per day; you'll stop briefly at the main bus terminal (Exit 25 off Route 95) before proceeding to South Station, where you can jump onto the MBTA to get anywhere in the Boston metro.

Greetings from a local yokal....OK PVD airport is not actually IN PVD..it's T.F. Green airport in Warwick RI, just south of PVD. Super easy access to the highway. Taxi will have you at the train station in 10 mins tops. Unless its 5pm m-f then it will take some time...traffic sux. :)

Cheapest and best is not the same thing. Cheapest way to downtown Providence (other than walking) is by city bus. There is an information desk that can direct you. If you arrive late at night or on a weekend or a holiday the train schedule has even fewer trains stopping up at the train station. Peter Pan bus from PVD to Boston might be the easiest but not the cheapest! Hal
