      Cancún Apr 30, 2013 at 3:43 PM

I will be staying in Puerto Morellos for 8 days and on one of those days I'd like to visit Chichenitza, Vallodolid and a cenote.
Most tours seem to go to Ik Kil but I have read that the best cenote is Dzitnup. Which do you think are the best cenotes and and do you know of any tours which include Dzitnup, Chichenitza and Valloladid?
Or is it possible/easy to visit them in one day with public transport/taxi? How much does this cost?
      Thanks in advance

    • How to avoid timeshare scam and have a safe vacation in Cancun

      Cancún Yesterday

I am planning to have an 30 years anniversary vacation with my wife in Cancun this September/2013. I've been reading all the review from all experienced travelers and most of them are involved with timeshare sale scam. Not only get into the scam and ruin the whole vacation for most of them which I feel very sad when reading it. After refused or withdraw from the scam deals, they were treated like a second citizens or bottom line tourist. We never get out of US since we married and love the beaches a lot. I've heard it's beautiful beaches and resorts in Cancun and wanted to have a great vacation with my love. But it's seem like unsafe with all the situation that I've seen from all the review. It's happened in most of the resorts there. Any advises is appreciated. I am thinking to travel with US might be safer? Thank you for any input.

    • Best family beach for a cruise stop

by Tmorledge Online Now Mar 28, 2013 at 10:51 AM

My family of 11 (ages 1 to 59) will be stopping in Progreso in May of this year on the Carnival Elation.
We would like to spend our hours there at the best beach not too far from the port.
We would need transportation and a nice quiet place to play.
      Suggestions?
We do not need alcohol but would love good food for lunch, beach chairs, umbrellas, maybe a pool and other water activities. And I am always open to an affordable massage.
      Thank you for your help.

Driving in the Yucatan, and snorkeling in the Progreso area

by markbruhy Online Now Feb 16, 2013 at 10:24 AM

I'm flying into Cancun Feb 28th, renting a car and driving to Progeso for a week. It's a four hour drive - are the roads between Cancun and Progreso well maintained? Secondly, I've read the Progreso beaches are nice but not good for snorkeling - are there snorkeling opportunities in the area, such as in cenotes? Do I bother to bring my snorkeling gear? Thanks!

We will be arriving in Progreso by Carnival on Oct24. Carnival does not seem to offer very many good shore excursion in progreso. The ones that are good are really expensive. Can anyone advise how much you can get the basically same shore excursions for if you wait and book when you get off the ship? Are these safe and reliable? We cant afford to miss getting back in time to get on the ship.

I was wondering if there are any fishing excursions to be found, one that they will possibly cook your catch, so you can enjoy it before its time to get back onboard.

We are planning to travel to Progreso mid-Feb. We may rent a villa on the beach. Has anyone travelled during that time of year to that area? Is it warm enough to swim and mostly is the sea good for swimming? As well, do you think we would need a car or taking cabs and public buses good enough for traveling around the area and sightseeing?

by mayfirst Online Now Nov 6, 2007 at 7:56 AM

      1. We are staying in Uaymitun for January 2008. So far, we do not plan to rent a car as we've heard that public transportation is plentiful and cheap. I'd love suggestions of day trips we could take. I realize that we are staying in a fairly isolated place so I'm interested in other travelers experiences staying in this area. I'm concerned that I may get bored!! I like to do something interesting at least part of every day and not just lay around the pool/beach. 2. I have to keep in fairly regular touch with my family in Canada as I have an elderly somewhat unwell parent. Where is the closest internet cafe? Is there any wireless access in the area at all? 3. Is it easy to find groceries? Would it be difficult to transport a few large shopping bags in the public bus/combi? Thanks for any and all help!

      First Trip to Yucatan

by New-to-Yucatan Online Now Feb 2, 2005 at 5:19 PM

I visited a web site with properties for sale in the Chicxulub/Progreso area and fell in love with the water, laid back atmosphere, etc. My husband and I are planning a trip to this area at the end of May 2005 to scout the area and see some properties. Do you know anyone else that have made that move? We live in Florida and are tired of the rat race and stress. Are we crazy for wanting to do that? I'm not sure if we can obtain a visa to be able to live permanently in Mexico - we do not plan on working. I will contact the Embasy/Consulate in Miami for more info on this subject. Will it be cheaper to buy a car locally or ship our own; any info along these lines about living there full time will be greatly appreciated.
