low season on Prince Edward Island

by vicemum Online Now Feb 11, 2007 at 9:26 PM

When is it less crowded to see Prince Edward Island. I was thinking of late May/early June or early September. How far in advance do I did to reserve accomodations?

PEI is really a July/August place. Some places do not open till July 1.
You should be OK in June or September.Start looking fo a place now however.

It's always good to book as early as you can, but PEI in general is not super-crowded even in the summer, because tourism has declined in the past few years. But I definitely think that the best time to visit is in the summer - that's when the seasonal businesses are open and even though it's not super-crowded, it's a lot more lively than in the other times of the year. Winter is completely dead - after Christmas there is nothing to see or do, and it's cold and boring. Springtime and fall aren't too bad but not really ideal - the weather is unpredictable and many businesses are closed until summer. Late May and early June is when the weather gets nice and businesses start to open for the summer, so it's a good time to come visit (though I still think that July and August are the best months).
