Hi, I am young blond woman going to pretoria for business trip. I am just wondering if there is any crime related to skin color or if my look will attract any attention. Also there is lots of information in the internet about high level of murder, rape etc... I am not sure if that information relates to townships and doggy areas or is it generally like that everywhere. My question is how safe it really is and if I will not go out in the evening and stay in the group when being outside what is the risk of being attact in anyway. Thanks Niko
Hi Niko And welcome to VT! My initial reaction is that since Pretoria is actually FAMED for its young, blonde women, you'll fit right in!!! More seriously, what are you intending to do in Pretoria (just have meetings, do site investigations?), whereabouts will you be doing your business/staying/visiting, how are you planning to get around and where do you come from (so that we can respond in context)? As a general response, If you're in PTA on business that involves meetings in corporate offices and staying in respectable hotels, then you should be absolutely fine. Regards Cathy

Hi... Many people are scared to visit SA, but if you just excersize a certain level of caution you will be fine. Never walk anywhere... just take taxi's (get a number of a taxi firm and keep it handy as you cannot really hail one from the roadside). Many people tend to socialise in complexes where there are loads of bars/restaurants, if you go there, you will be fine... just ignore anyone that tries to sell you anything... this might happen now and then... just ignore them and they will go away... So you should be fine... just stay in areas where there are many other people and don't walk anywhere...(like outside next to the road)... you will be fine... Have a good trip!
