We are a group of 4 wanting to travel from Prague to Frankfurt by train on 2nd September. Would it be better to buy the train tickets online or purchase them once we arrive in Prague? Any advice gratefully received. Thanks, Kathy
I haven't travelled this particular route but in this case I'd suggest you buy your tickets online (I do not usually suggest this for European trains), because bahn.de (the German railway operator) has excellent advance discount fares available on some routes/dates departures and Prague>Frankfurt is one of those routes. Advance discount tickets are limited in availability and can (often do) sell out. bahn.com/i/view/overseas/en/... You'll get an eticket to print out and must present this, and the card you used to pay (absolutely essential) to the guard. The ticket ties you to a specific departure date/time. Fares for 2nd September are as low as 29 euro, whereas 'normal' fare is 93 euro.

I bought mine online for this route (Prague-Dresden-Frankfurt, with a change of trains in Dresden) with no problem. I do not think there is any difference in price, but perhaps some local person in Prague can confirm this, or not.

Yes, if you want to go for one of those 29 euro tickets on bahn.de you can book it 89 days ahead of time. Work out exactly when that is and book it on that day, otherwise it might be too late. (I have done this for other connections, but not Prague-Frankfurt.) Only do this if you are sure you can catch that particular train.

Advance discount tickets for 2nd September are available now on bahn.de so it's worth making your plans and snapping them up whilst they are available. I found the whole process of booking discount tickets on bahn.de very simple and very effective. You also have the option of having the 'real' tickets sent to you for a small extra fee, rather than just using an eticket.

Brilliant! Brilliant! We wanted to leave in the morning, so following the great advice above, have just purchased 4 tickets for the 8.38am departure at 39 euros each!! Thank you so much, Leics and Nemorino. Can't wait... Cheers, Kathy.

Excellent! Now just make 500% sure you take that same card with you! :-)

Be aware that this 8:38 departure from Praha is by coach. The coach leaves in Praha on the bus platform in front of the main station. This is how aver announced in the station. The coach takes you to Nürnberg where you change to a train.
