Ostrovni

by taurean_traveller Online Now Feb 22, 2012 at 12:41 PM

Hi Have taken the plunge and booked a weekend in Prague in April. I have read about options etc regarding transport to city centre from the airport. Can you tell me if bus 119 will go anywhere near to Ostrovni? Not sure if this is a street or district. Or suggestions please as to best way to get to this place (avoiding taxis). Regards and thanks

Ostrovni is a street (put it into googlemaps + 'prague' and you'll see where it is). You could take bus 119 to Dejvicka and get the Metro from there (that bus terminates more-or-less by the Metro entrance). Metro map here: pragueexperience.com/maps/me... Nearest Metro is Narodni Trida on line B, so you'll need to change at Mustek. Alternatively you could take bus 100 to Zlicin and just stay on line B all the way. prg.aero/en/parking-transpor...

As its your first time in prague i would do as the above poster has said and take bus 100 from the airport. You can then take the metro without having to change. Buy your ticket from the kiosk inside the arrivals hall and be sure to validate it when you get on the bus. No need to do it again when you change to metro.

Here's a Prague oddity - if you take the metro, your bag may need a ticket depending on its size. Strange, but true - not sure if its enforced, but I didn't want to take the chance. I believe the fee was 16 czk.

That is also the case in several other European cities I've visited...and also on the vaporetti in Venice.

Thank you to all who gave me tips re Airport to city centre. It indeed was effortless and very straightforward and very efficient. 10 minute wait for the bus,20 mins by bus to metro and another 20 mins to our destination. We used the 100 going and the 119 back just to see the difference and virtually the same time taken The people at the desk were very helpful checked our bags and as they were hand luggage no charge. The charge apparently for a large case is 16kc. Leics I agree a smashing place. We fell in love with it from the start. Coupled with the fact that euros were not in use found our money went further!! Only disappointment was smoking in most of the restaurants, but we did not let that spoil a super birthday weekend

Very pleased indeed (though not at all surprised) that you had a super trip. The smoking thing...well, it's a different culture, so one just accepts it as it is. Imo it's good that even places within the EU are still different. :-)
