What is the best way to travel from Rome to Portofino at the end of September? The trains to Santa Margherita seem to be very, very slow (4+ hours). Are their any better ways?
The journey from Rome to Portofino by train will take between 5 & 6 hours.
There is no direct service and you will need to change.
You could fly to Genova(Sestri)for around 70 euros, then catch a train from Sestri but by the time you've checked in etc. then made your train connection
you will gain nothing. In fact, get the timing wrong and it could take longer.
